Have we seen the end of the Pac12

Recommended Posts

It’s crazy to see only 4 teams remain to play in 2024 my Oregon State Beavers included. It’s crazy to see a conference fall apart when it’s over 100 years old. So far it’s unknown where the Beavers will be playing in 2024 and how they do this year may influence it, they had a great year last season including a bowl game win but will probably need another double digit winning season to maybe get interest from the ACC or Big 12.

The worst case scenario would be the mountain-west conference because the budget for football would decline and we are in the middle of remodeling our stadium.

Whoever is running college football is ruining it. I am huge Cornhuskers fan, have been since 1983. I miss when it was the Big8, our rivalries with Oklahoma and Colorado for example. I used to always buy my college Street and Smith magazine before every season during the 80's and 90's and study how great Oklahoma and Colorado might be. The Big10 isn't the Big10 anymore either, at least people still have Ohio State vs Michigan to watch. I doubt any of higher ups would have the balls to take that away lmao .

Yeah, they say they are going to continue the Oregon vs Oregon State Rivalry game but idk how they will do it, depending on what conference Oregon state will join, which is unfortunate I remember being in the stands on a rainy game in Corvallis when we beat the Ducks and the stands rushed the field in celebration, it will be a shame if it no longer exists

I hate all these teams changing conferences. I stopped watching college basketball because of that. Changing conferences killed the Big East which had many great rivalries. I am a Stanford football fan and want them to remain in the PAC-12. I have not followed closely this season. Is Stanford bound for a different conference too?

What a mess college football is. All of this wad done for one reason alone: money. Aren't there other factors to take into account before ruining conferences and sports? In sports (and elsewhere), money is valued over everything else. It is terrible.

My enjoyment of sports is dwindling. I used to follow college sports as well a professional tennis, golf, baseball and sometimes the Olympics. The only sport I still follow is NFL football, but I see I am losing interest a bit. I may start following baseball again if the Mets start a youth movement; otherwise, I won't watch.

Sorry for the rant. I want the conferences to go back to what they were -- regional, where there could be some real rivalries. I don't like what there is now. Hopefully the PAC 12 will survive.

Yeah, Stanford is going to the ACC. It's really annoying because no other conference wants Oregon State because they aren't a big brand name but they are having another great year 5-1 ranked 15th. So they may end up left without a conference or have to downgrade to the mountain west conference even though they are playing like a top 25 team.

The ACC? Is that for certain? Ugh. I don't like it.

Oregon St will probably move too. Is Oregon St still coached by the guy who used to be the Chargers' head coach? He has/had been at Oregon St for a while. I forgot his name.

Who are the other three teams that have not joined a new conference?

Why did the Pac-12 dissolve?

Yeah Stanford and Cal were voted in to join the ACC, only Oregon State and Washington State don't have a conference next year. Officially it's all about TV money they can get more if they join the bigger conferences.

No Mike Riley left like 8 years ago then we had Gary Anderson who was terrible and now we have Jonathan Smith, who really turned the team around. He's an ex-OSU QB and was the offensive coordinator for Washington.

And... That's how Grand Father stories would start for the kids about the things that aren't relevant anymore...

Michael Penix Jr., I watched him for the first time in a high pressure game and he underwhelmed for me. He might drop to Round 3 or 4, based on what I see.  Washington State was playing loose and their QB was playing like what Penix Jr. should have been playing like.

Odunze and McMillan are very good talents, Odunze definitely a tier above the rest amongst the WRs on the field.

Yeah never trust a college player that played 6 years in college. I think Penix isn't a NFL starter he'll be 24 years old by the beginning of the NFL season and honestly he's played about the same throughout his college career stat-wise. The only difference is that at IU he threw the ball around 180-200 attempts at Washington he's throwing almost 3 times that amount. which his yards are about 3x of what they were at IU, his completion % is about the same as his sophomore year at IU and his passing touchdowns are about 3x what they were at IU as well. He's just a older player playing against young guys. I think he's at best an above average back up in the NFL.

    • In my opinion (which is worth 2 cents): 1.  AR himself:  The one foot superman throws have to stop.  I think teams have studied the film and are hip to it now.  Last year, it seemed when AR would attempt them, it was against 1on1 situations, but this year it’s been a safety shadowing and there to pick off the overthrown ball.  AR has to not try to depend on his athleticism and stick to the mechanics.  Use the athleticism to create but use the mechanics to execute.  Also, he needs to get comfortable with the amount of touch he puts on his throws, but that will and hopefully should come with experience and coaching.   2.  Playcalling:  last year, the playcalling for the small sample size we got is vastly different than this years.  Last year, we leaned on zack moss and the run game and utilized ARs legs with designed runs, rollouts, etc.  this year, it seems we’ve gone straight Air Raid with running sprinkled in.  Shane says it’s because of the urgency to score quick to mitigate us losing the TOP battle by a wide margin.  I think we should worry about that until it’s time to in the game.  We shouldn’t be panicking in the 1st and 2nd qtrs when it’s a one score game.  I’ve said it in other threads, AR shouldn’t throw more than 25 times.  Maybe 30 tops depending on the game.  And also, would like to see AR out of the pocket more.  Keep the defense on its heels and guessing.     3.  Not having JD and productive TE group:  downs didn’t play the first 2 games and our TE room has been abysmal.  Last year, you had guys like ogletree and even cox making some plays.  This year, it seems all we have is the one flash per game from Granson.  Not to mention, MPJ is off to a BAD year.  AR doesn’t have any safety blankets.  He doesn’t have someone he can fall back on when things downfield aren’t there.  That should be MPJ but as I said above, MPJ has been bad.  We just got downs back so they should be back cooking once downs get his game wind back.    4.  Missing time due to injury:  I stated in the offseason that the colts needed to utilize every opportunity we had to get AR reps in the preseason.  We have the youngest and most inexperienced starting QB.  Not playing him in the preseason that much held him back.  Me personally, I would’ve let AR play every preseason game until he asked to come out due to soreness or whatever.     so as you can see, I think it’s more to it than just “AR sux”.
    • Maybe he's not much of a passing QB yet. But he's willing to get in there and do some dirty work for his teammates. That builds locker room camaraderie for sure.
    • .  I think we can win now with Flacco…maybe even have a shot at the big game if our defense improves. We can definitely win the division. Our offense is pretty stacked for Flacco….number one oline…..top 5 rb…..solid receivers. From what you’ve seen of Richardson do you honestly think he is a franchise qb with his accuracy problems?  I see where you are coming from though. Everyone wants AR to pan out….i get it…...I just don’t think he’s a franchise qb. Not even sure if he’s a legit starter in this league. I will hope for the best though and root for him as long as he wears the shoe.
    • Lot of things going on at that time.  HC, ST Coach AND the return man…someone, anyone pull your head out of the tunnel of sensory overload.    The kickoff was after a timeout as well.
    • The way I see it, Chiefs will be #1 seed. So everyone will have to go through their winter infested field.    1. Chiefs 2. Bills 3. Texans 4. Steelers 5. Jets 6. Ravens 7. Bengals
