Definitely are. That report just came after your post I presume.

Yes it did as I checked closely before i posted. Then when you replied that he signed with Carolina , I checked and it was like the second post from the top.

Oh man, where are all the forum members that were beside themselves when the Colts let him go? :hide:

Forum members may of been upset when he was released even though he was bad, but it was Ballard who drafted him with a 4th round pick even though he was bad and he only lasted a year here.

So you tell me which is worse. The fans who want a QB on their favorite team to get a chance when the starting QB is hurt, or the GM that releases said QB because he's so horrible he can't make it on the team more than a year after being drafted in the 4th round.

It was a bad pick, which proves my point in our earlier discussions. He was taken in the 4th round, a Ballard gamble that failed. Many GM's have really screwed up, look at these #1 and #2 picks in the draft that didn't work out and some flat out stunk:

Ryan Leaf - Chargers (taken #2 in 1998)

Tim Couch - Browns (taken #1 in 1999)

JaMarcus Russell .- Raiders (taken #1 in 2007)

Jameis Winston - Bucs (taken #1 in 2015)

Marcus Mariota - Titans (taken #2 in 2015)

Jared Goff - Rams (taken #1 in 2016)

Carson Wentz - Eagles (taken #2 in 2016)

Mitch Trubisky - Bears (taken #2 in 2017)

Baker Mayfield - Browns (taken #1 in 2018)

*Sam Darnold - was taken 3rd by the Jets in 2018 lmao

-This is why the drafting a so-called franchise QB is risky, I just gave you 10 QB's that pretty much either stunk, or are average and will never win a SB The Simpsons GIF by KiwiGo (KGO)

No thanks, give me Matt Ryan all day over these dudes. In 2020, Cincy got lucky and hit the lottery with Joe Burrow like we did with Luck. It happens once every 10 years lmao . By the way Joe Burrow won't last unless his O.Line gets much better. Burrow has been hit and sacked a ton and he has been injured as well. There have been a few hits outside of top 3 but a GM has to get real lucky to land that like a Mahomes at #10 or Allen #7. - That is just pure luck because hardly nobody thought Mahomes would be good - hence taken 10th. Allen is very good but not great yet, win me something Allen - same for Herbert who went 6th.

Yep. That's why the GM has to know his stuff when picking a QB. Usually there's one or two in every draft that turn out ok. That's why in a different thread I gave you the list of QBs Ballard could of taken in 2020-2022 and how they were currently doing. There are always options. For us, it's hindsight when we say QB X or Y is working out for said team or doing terrible, I hold the GMs knowledge to a higher standard where he should figure these things out though.

Obviously this doesn't have much to do with Eason as a 4th round pick is a gamble for even the most knowledgeable GM, however, it does have to do with the fact that there's always a QB or two that's solid in the first few rounds, and they don't have to be a top ten pick.

Marino was very good but win me something. Elway was very good for 16 years until he got a great running game, defense, the coaching, ...

 Allen IS GREAT

 Herbert is AWESOME

I would believe Mahommes was on most everyones 1st rd draft board.

Getting to sit for a year surrounded by great mentors with a great offense and having one of the best TE's ever.

 Our Colts are very promising!!

Knowing there are many "Busts" in every round tells me there are always going to be draft candidates that fool the system.

Eason was evaluated and earned his draft slot based on a projection of what might be. It is safe to say that there is something off between the Ears with him.

IMO there was with Luck. He couldn't lead a receiver at the numbers in the short game worth a ____! But he sure made a name for TY waiting for him to get open. Umph thud! Nice hit!

I am for drafting a QB but last year just wasn't it with Matty Ice here. Obviously we need a guy that can give us 10 years comfortably, that will be Ballard's calling card, do we eventually get a Tua or Mahomes lmao , lets face it QB's like Tua and Mac Jones aren't winning anything either - just truth and they are above average like Wentz, Tannehill and Hurts is. None of those guys are winning a SB unless they call Ray Lewis and Ed Reed up.

I have the Bills winning the SB and have money on it, Allen is my guy at QB. I have us playing them for all the marbles in the AFC and have money on that. I just said win me something because as of now, Allen hasn't been to the SB. Marino is a top 10 QB of all-time and went to a SB, Elway made 3 SB's without a running game.

I'll say this. We'll probably never have a top ten draft pick again as long as Ballard is the GM. The team besides the QB is too good. That means, in theory, we'll never have a chance at a truly elite QB in a draft without trading up. So what do you do? Trade up and sacrifice years of draft picks, or get creative and take someone to develop for a couple years behind a veteran like Matt Ryan? That's why I wanted Willis or Ridder so bad. They were undervalued in this draft, and they fit in with the timeline that Matt Ryan will retire when they will be ready to start in the NFL. Much rather pay a 3rd round pick than multiple 1sts+ for a QB in the 5-10 range two years from now.

I have a strange feeling that we take a QB in the 1st round in 2023 and take that gamble because of Matt's age. I would be ok with that.

Maybe. I would be ok with that. As of now, we are ok at QB because of Foles and Sam. Keeping Sam made me happy as we have a young QB on the roster with potential. I just hope Ballard has a future plan in mind. Hopefully he has an idea of the QBs currently in college and is doing his homework on them.

Yeah Sam isn't too bad, I was so happy he made the 53. He deserved it. He, IMO will probably end up being a great back-up for someone, hopefully us. A guy that can win you 1 or 2 games in a pinch like Jacoby. In order for us to get a franchise QB for a decade, Ballard has to get lucky and just nail it because we will be picking in the 20's.

    • No, but I would love that! Is that true? Where did you hear that? I don't think that will happen. I heard that trading Herbert would result in a huge dead cap hit for the Chargers, that would make it nearly impossible to keep or sign other players.

    • Final edition, call it a less penalty driven team draft.   The Colts trade up on Day 1.   Round 1 a)       WR Rome Odunze (Washington) – led all receivers in CFB in pass interference call draws with 9 in 2023. b)      LCB Quinyon Mitchell (Toledo) – Only had 3 penalties in the last two seasons. c)       WLB Edgerrin Cooper (Texas A&M)   Round 2  a)      OL Cooper Beebe (Kansas State) – Jack of all trades OL No matter where Cooper Beebe lines up, he produces elite play. In 2022 at left guard, Beebe was a second-team All-American.  Beebe's 94.0 pass-blocking grade over the past two seasons led all offensive linemen in college football. During that span, he didn’t allow a sack on 770 pass-blocking snaps.  Beebe is the only FBS guard who ranks in the top five in both PB (4th) and RB (2nd).  He still hasn’t allowed a sack since the 2020 season. 2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team.   Very few penalties throughout his career. b)      FS/NCB Javon Bullard (Georgia) – only had 5 penalties in college. c)       SS Jaden Hicks (Washington State) – 2023 PFF TOW 2 honors. Leader on defense that off to a strong start for 2023 earning a 90.1 PFF grade in coverage with one interception after 3 weeks, dropped another but forced 4 incompletions.  Great field and anticipation skills along with ball production.  Versatile can align up in FS, SS, LB, or nickel.  Only had 3 penalties in 2023.   Round 3 a)       CB Khyree Jackson (Oregon) – 2023 PFF TOW 4 honors.  Jackson had a decent Senior Bowl Week and is best in Zone Coverage. Jackson’s got excellent height we covet at 6’3” with great weight at 203 pounds, with ideal arms 32” and the span of 78” and good 4.44s-Forty.  Only committed 4 penalties in 2023. b)       DB Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (Texas Tech) - only 7 career penalties with 200 tackles, 57 stops, 11 pressues, 3 sacks, 16 passes defended, and 10 interceptions. c)       LCB Kris Abrams-Draine (Missouri) - 2023 PFF TOW 4 honors.  After 6 games leads all FBS players with 8 PBUs (1.8 PDPG) while adding 3 INTs.   10 combined interceptions and (7) forced incompletions are the most among Power Five CBs while only allowing 11 catches all season. 2023 college football midseason all-America First Team.  His 86.8 coverage grade is 5th highest in the FBS allowing just 107 passing yards and 11 receptions on the season. d)      SWR Malik Washington (Virginia) – Josh Downs 2.0 and only committed 4 total penalties in five years (52 career games).   Round 4 a)      RG Zak Zinter (Michigan) 2022 PFF Week 5, 11, 12 TOW Honors. 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team. Wasn’t called for a single penalty on 649 snaps. b)      FS Cole Bishop (Utah) junior if he declares – After 5 weeks in 2023, targeted 13 times, 4 catches allowed, 2 INTs, and 4.8 passer rating allowed.  Had a decent Senior Bowl week. PFF TOW 9 honors.  In 2022 he had an 82.5 overall grade with a 90.6 PB and 80.6 RB grade.  As of Oct 15th, Lee is the highest graded center in all FBS earning an 82.7 PFF grade.  Only allowed 2 penalties in 2022 on 1059 offensive snaps given up only four pressures and no sacks. c)       MLB Dallas Gant (Toledo) - 2023 college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention
    • Holy cow!     And then shows he should have been picked top 5
    • This goes against everything Ballard would do, however it would be something that Irsay would love to do as he is a romantic. Probability is very very low though.
