Is It Just Me Or Does Nobody Look Excited About Jacob Eason? None Of The Coaches Or Players

Let's see how things look in camp.  OTAs are flag football.  Generally that means you don't get a real look at the bigs, but other positions have it way easier too.  Receivers aren't being rubbed on their routes they're running them vs air.  QBs aren't worried about pressures they're exercising and getting their reads down.  And so on.

 

Also backup QB isn't about having a guy who blows your mind in 7 on 7s.  It's about having a guy with a full command of the offense who can come in at a random moment without needing to change the offense.

 

I expect we're going to see a lot of this kid in the preseason tilts too.  So there's plenty of room for fans to get a feel for how he's come along.  We're just not gonna know until there's some pads and hitting though.

We also didn't afford him a true "pre-season" last year, same with the rest of the 2020 rookie class...

I'm not crazy bout foles(or even dalton) either, but one won a Super Bowl and the other has never taken a NFL snap.

Eason’s off-season is ultimately going to come down to this.....

 

How does he do in his three pre-season  games, plus any scrimmages the Colts schedule?
 

If Eason does well in those, then he’s the backup.

 

If not, we will attempt to trade an extra player somewhere for a Brissett-level backup after the pre-season is over.
