TY Hilton Appreciation Thread

TY is so dependable and explosive, we would not have our success it he was not for him.  The great turnaround and success has many contributors but he is surely one big factor.

At work today, my co-workers know I'm a Colts fan and was saying how lucky are to have TY Hilton, he does a great job of the field without be a prima donna diva, I/me first player, and negative locker room guy.  His production over the past several years would make him vulnerable to getting a big head but he stays level headed and is a pleasant interview.  I'm grateful for his efforts and contributions without being a problematic player for coaches and team mates like some other great WR's like;  Antonio Brown, OBJ, Dez Bryant, Terrel Owens are those that come to mind.

Fitzgerald of Arizona is another top flight WR, model citizen.

Remember last year when people wanted us to trade Hilton? Fools.

Yes I do remember. Saying things like he is not a #1 receiver.

Just having him on the field has always opened up other receivers including the TEs.

He plays through injuries and always comes to play. When Luck says he is a special player there is no reason to doubt him.

I will freely admit to frustration with TY last year.  In particular I felt like he threw the O-line under the bus with comments to the press.  To me, that felt like pettiness and playing the blame game rather than trying to get the team to play better.

However, his toughness this year and willingness to play through a lot of pain and injury has given me a new-found respect for him.  Not only the ability to play through the pain barrier, but to ball out while doing it!

To emphasise just how important he is to us, we don't need to really mention the yards against the Texans, but 4 of his 5 catches were on 3rd down.  How can you put a value on that?

Is it just me or have we been super fortunate with receivers over the last 15 years or so?  We have constantly had one sometimes 2 hall of fame level recievers on the team at all times. It’s weird how sports work because let’s say on avg a team gets a hall of fame wr every 20 years. We have had 3 the last 15 years if Hilton becomes one.

So does that mean after Hilton statistically  speaking we could possibly go on a huuuuuge drought without a super star wr because we used all ours up at once? I know that’s not exactly how math works but usually things avg out.

It kind of reminds me of my fav baseball team the braves. We had some great catchers one after another with Javy lopez, Johnny Estrada who was going to be a star before he got injured and then Brian McCann.  Then after McCann that position was absolutely horrible for the next ten years or so.  Btw I know you can maybe buy one with free agency but I’m talking drafting one.

    • Can't keep having your safety be leading tackler. We will also lose Cross to injury if the rest of the team can't learn how to tackle.    Especially Franklin
    • I still think the inaccuracies and the sailing of his throws is masking the progress he's made as a QB. I think decision-making-wise and when it comes to reading the defense, he's on a very good trajectory. He looks like a QB who knows what he's doing, who knows where he needs to go with the ball. He probably needs to work on his timing with the receivers a bit and he needs to be a bit quicker with his decisions at times, but overall those are things a young QB will naturally get better at with time and experience.   Just take a moment and think about it - it feels like almost every single one of his worst looking throws are throws where he went through his progression, read the defense and made the right decision. Just the throws themselves were off. Some of them WAY OFF.    Now don't get me wrong, at some point he will need to start hitting those throws because at the end of the day what's the point of reading the defense and making the right decision if you sail the ball 5 yards over the receiver's head? If he doesn't get better at that, he will bust, because no team will have the patience for a vet QB who can't hit those type of throws with any consistency. I really hope the coaching staff is working with him on it and we see some progress by the end of the season.
    • Give him the rest of the year before we make too much judgement on progress. Dude is super young and still figuring it out.     I think his footwork is poor, and he relies on his rocket launcher arm to save him w/o thinking about mechanics. When he's under pressure is when he resorts to kind of like a backyard ball approach.    I think the WR's have issue on trying to catch his fastballs, so now he's trying to throw with "touch" and underthrowing quite a bit. Though there have been a lot of dropped passes by the WR's for sure.    All these wildly sailing balls and inaccurate throws are what's concerning. Hopefully it's all correctable. (I think it is?)
