Agreed. Most of the time they’re just picking up a blitz. But if the QB can read the blitz pre-snap he can make the necessary adjustments. In theory you should only need the RB to pass protect on 4th and long situations when you know a blitz is coming. The exception is the defensive coordinators like Swartz who will blitz on any down.  If you don’t have a RB who can pick up the rushing LB, then you have a problem.

Seems like ever since the pads have come out, he’s impressed. And according to Reich his pass protection is good. Sounds like he really is pushing to the staff to commit to a number 1 back when it’s supposed to be RBBC
