Games watched: vs LSU, vs Arkansas, vs Texas A&M

The Good:

Fantastic athlete. Elite speed and explosive get-off at the line. Very high-ceiling player.

Strong enough to beat press coverage when challenged at the line.

Does a good job at tracking the ball through the air and timing his jumps:

Good body control. Adjusts to the ball well. Shields it with his body.

Powerful runner. Can drag tacklers. A lot of wiggle and elusiveness after the catch.

Special teams gunner.

MY GOD SAMMIE! THAT DB HAS A FAMILY!!

The Bad:

With his athletic ability, you'd like to see him attack the ball in the air more frequently.

Doesn't run routes from the slot. Probably just a function of the offense, but experience there is always a plus to me.

Not an explosive route-runner.  Probably why he ran limited routes at Auburn.

Inconsistent run-blocker.

The Ugly:

Prefers to corral the ball with his chest.

The above leads to a ton of dumb drops and double-catches.

Conclusion:

Coates is a very athletic, high-ceiling player with all the physical qualities you look for in a 1st round receiver. At this point, he is more athlete than WR. He'd be a good pick for a team that doesn't have to rely on him right away and can take a chance on a project player. A team like New England seems like a perfect fit. Maybe those deflated footballs will help him with his catching problem.

Projected Round: 2
NFL Comp: A more physical Martavis Bryant, Pittsburgh

Up next: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Missouri/Oklahoma
