Invisibulman's Mock Draft and FA.

Recommended Posts

This is a really good article on where we are compared to the rest of the teams, and what players we need to sign, along with some really good analysis(along with money analysis). I could never make anything like this or as good as this, and all the credit goes to invisbulman from Stampedeblue.

I don't like the idea of cutting Toler and not replacing him, and I hate the idea of signing Nicks.

Yeah. He mentioned that CB #2 is kind of a problem in this draft. I don't like the idea of signing Nicks either, and I would be fine if we got all the other players in this draft/FA except Nicks.

Me too, Signing both Soliai and Jones would be unreal.

I understand the approach, but he's overlooking some things. For instance, we pay more for linebackers and less for DL because Robert Mathis is an OLB and not a DE. We pay more at S because Bethea and Landry have veteran contracts, which is kind of a good reason not to resign Bethea. Completely different from the Seahawks, Broncos, and even the Niners who have Eric Reid. The OL position is lower than the top four teams because our LT is on his rookie contract, as opposed to the Pats, Niners and Broncos who have highly paid LTs.

I think if you're going to do a Moneyball analysis, it should be true Moneyball. You break down how much other teams are paying for PRODUCTION, not for positions. How much are other teams paying per interception, per sack, per tackle, per rushing/passing TD scored, per completion, etc., etc. And then you have to adjust for how much of that production is coming from players on rookie contracts.

His draft looks a lot like my draft. I had Jordan Matthews and Alden Darby, and took an ILB in the third round (Smallwood instead of Borland). I had Aiken as a UDFA, but he seems to be moving up lately. And if you're drafting Matthews, there no reason to sign Nicks. If you're cutting Toler, you could do something to replace him.

Anyways, interesting thoughts there, but kind of half-baked.

I'm always sceptical of these mock free agency and draft articles that are basically just fans that don't really know anymore than some here. I'm not totally against some of his suggestions but I think its highly unrealistic.

I do not see NT as a priority. Although Soliai would be a nice pickup, I just don't think the team will go after him. I am totally against wasting any cap money on a WR. It's not important and with the receivers we have plus getting Allen back, it would be a waste of resources that should be spent elsewhere.

While Mack would be nice to have, once again, he's just gonna cost too much for a center. We could sign one of the other available centers for a lot cheaper for not much difference in production IMO. I think he's been reading this forum too much with the Asamoah suggestion. Somebody mentioned him here while back so a lot of posters jumped on his bandwagon without knowing a whole lot about him. Asamoah pretty much sucked this season and got benched. I don't see the point in signing another scrub for the O-line.

Good article.

Personally, I am not a fan of Borland at LB. I think he is too small. He may be dynamite, but he won't hold up for a full NFL season.

The main problem I have with Alex Mack is the price tag. He is going to cost a great deal. I read that he might command a deal similar to Ryan Kalil. I just have a feeling that we are going to give Khaled Holmes a shot next season.

I agree 110% with what they say about the safety position. Great safeties can be found later in the draft. Teams that overspend on free safeties tend to lose. Look at the Patriots, they have a revolving door at safety and continue to flourish.

Finally, I have a very difficult time seeing Jordan Matthews falling to us in the 2nd round.

I would focus on defense in the draft: 3 guys I have my eye on currently: Ego Ferguson DT LSU, Pierre Desir CB Lindenwood, Deone Bucannon S Washington State

Jordan Matthews could fall to us. He had a bad Senior Bowl, and if he has a bad combine, he could fall.

I think the WR core is a little unrealistic especially if we run 2 TE sets. Wayne and T.Y and Nicks(sometimes) on the field with Jordan Matthews, DaRick Rogers,, LaVon Brazill and Griff on the bench? I like nicks and Matthews, but I doubt we get both. just my 2 cents

If I had to choose one, I'd choose Matthews over Nicks.

    • Next year imagine the Colts will be looking at 2 QBs.  My top dual threat/mobile pocket passers are Jalen Milroe, Grayson McCall, and KJ Jefferson.   For offensive lineman got to love LT Kelvin Banks Jr who managed to hold his own versus Will Anderson a few years ago and LG Donovan Jackson.  Jackson has generated all-conference honors the past two seasons; Nelson's contract expires at the end of 2026 where he will be 30 years old.   So far for running backs I like Treveyon Henderson, DJ Giddens, and Kyle Monangai.  Each back knows how to secure the rock.  Last I checked both Dalvin Cook and Damien Harris are still free agents that would improve our roster.   Not sure if we need a top talented wide receiver early but am interested in Tre Harris and Ricky White.  While De'Corian Clark been compared to Alec Pierce and made Bruce Feldman's Freak list.  Still need to see where his high school numbers would have ranked compared to this year's draft class.     Plenty of defensive lineman to like in the next draft and probably one of the best groups coming out.   Edge Princely Umanmielen - one I feel is a fit for the Colts Edge Jack Sawyer is another stud that I want to pair with Latu and Paye Edge James Pearce Jr. DT 3-tech Tyleik Williams Edge/DL Mykel Willaims - as a freshman led all FBS true freshman edge defenders LDT Kenneth Grant NT/DT Walter Nolan Edge Dani Dennis-Sutton Edge Landon Jackson Edge Patrick Payton Edge Tyler Baron DL Shermar Turner - been one of the more disruptive DTs in the SEC.  Has a quick first step and body control to shoot the gaps. NT/DT Tonka Hemingway Edge Jasheen Davis NT/DT Alfred Collins. Linebackers got an interesting group of prospects to keep an eye on from the following: WLB Jack Kiser WLB Danny Stutsman LB Dasan McCullough MLB/OLB Jay Higgins LB/Edge Collin Oliver LB Eugene Asante SLB/Edge Khordae Sydnor LB Keaten Wade LB/Edge Steve Linton WLB Eric Gentry Read where some say this is a very weak safety class but got a few that seem to have potential.  This draft class I noticed more excel in press/man more than zone but still very capable of playing both.  Some of the defensive backs I like so far are: LCB Will Johnson CB Benjamin Morrison CB Ricardo Hallman SS Kevin Winston Jr - Blackmon signed a 1-year deal but only a 2% missed tackle rate and ranked 2nd among all safeties in 2023. SS Xavier Nwankpa - 4.39s-forty speed reminds me of Nick Cross FS Rod Moore - excellent 4.40s-forty speed FS Hunter Wohler - slower 4.52s-forty speed, if can improve his speed might be better than Rod Moore CB Tacario Davis CB Maxwell Hairston FS Jahdae Barron CB Jacobee Bryant CB Jordan Hancock CB Denver Harris SS Keon Sabb CB Malik Spencer CB Aydan White CB Tommi Hill - In 2023 had an outstanding QB rating when targeted of 38.6.  With another solid year Hill could move up the draft boards. Still on the lookout of those players not listed on the primary draft boards that the Colts always seem to find hidden gems to draft.
    • This is the list of Retired Colts Numbers. Peyton Manning — No. 18 Johnny Unitas — No. 19 Buddy Young — No. 22 Lenny Moore — No. 24 Art Donovan — No. 70 Jim Parker — No. 77 Raymond Berry — No. 82 Gino Marchetti — No. 89
    • a lot of the recent super bowl winners had game changing tight ends bowers would have been a nice addition but i like who we got, imo an a plus draft
    • Ballard has said in a recent presser that Paye needs to get better as a pass rusher, so I doubt they are getting what they want from him.
    • Agree. They may have been calling the Cards at 4 for Harrison and then just kept offering to trade with teams every pick there after until Nabers, Odunze and Bowers were gone.
