What Would It Take For A Defensive Player To Win MVP

A Charles Woodson type, similar to his Heisman winning season when he robbed Manning of it.

It would take a DB having a monster year (getting TO's and scoring off of them) and also returning K's and P's.     He would probably also have to be playing WR also...    and making some big plays.

That is the only way I could see it happening.     In today's NFL QB is the alpha male position.     The game is geared for QB success, just to hard for any other position take it.      Peterson just had one of the ALL TIME great seasons for a RB and he is no lock to win it.  and he probably won't      Same for Calvin Johnson...

Very tough to take it from a QB now a days.

I would say somewhere around 80 sacks. 5/game. Probably 30 int, with 15 of them being pick 6's. Defensively you would have given your team 105 points. Your pick 6's also would have had to make a massive impact in the game. If your team still loses 58-14 it won't matter what you did. THe points would have to consistently lead directly to your team winning. And many of those ints would have to be vs elite qbs and then your team would have to beat their teams. It would help if your offense totally sucked as well, yet you still got to the playoffs solely on your amazingness.

Rodgers, Brees, Brady and Manning would have to all have a terrible season.

Well said SG! Either that or the second coming of Lawrence Taylor who instills absolute fear of bodily dismemberment from every QB in the NFL. Translation: It will never happen again since referees are instructed to coddle & pamper all starting field generals.

A defensive player would just have to wreck the league to win MVP.  If a guy can come out and take what JJ Watt did for the first few games of the season and extend that to the entire season, then he might have a shot.  Deflect passes, get sacks, make tackles, force fumbles...
