where will we be come next years draft...top 5 maybe.

Recommended Posts

Looking at the loss of Coach Pagano, the thinnest of our o-line and CB at the moment is it possible we will end up top five again or as i saw in an different thread that we could end up in having a 5 game win streak... and could end up out of the top ten... while i don't want to lose looking at the team and the chance to build better could it be better to get a top 5 pick and trade down for a late first and a second and solidify the O-line and D-Line... what do ye think.

As we sit here in early October I don't get the sense that we're looking at a great draft.

Perhaps not a bad one, but not a great one. I don't think there's a franchise QB or RB or a rare WR like Calvin or Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald.

Still... I think there will be plenty of good players and more than just to fill the needs of the top-10 of the first round.

So, there's no way to know how much the loss of Pagano will hurt, though you have to think it's not going to help and it will likely hurt significantly.

I've been guessing we'll pick in the 6-10 range, but I suppose we could slip some. Still, we don't have a hard schedule, so perhaps we get lucky here and there....

Bottom line, while I prefer an OT in the first round and defense for the rest of our picks, I think we'll get a good player in the first round no matter the position. There will be a quality player for the Colts. What we'll find in the rest of the rounds.... right now, too early to know...

This is a great draft for OL, DL and pass rushers. All needs we have. It's also a much better S class than last year. I like this draft from our perspective.

I say if Star Lotulelei or Johnathon Hankins are there if we are picking around 5-10, take one of them. I think getting a better pass rush starts with having INTERIOR pass rush that we havent had in quite some time. Not allowing the opposing QB to step up in the pocket creates much more opportunities for guys like Mathis, Hughes, etc. Plus both Lotulelei and Hankins can provide some pass rush themselves from the NT and 3-4 DE spot.

Then in the 3rd round we can bolster our secondary or get a pass rushing LB like Sean Porter.

As a fan I would love to say 11th or 12th. But thinking as a realist, right now wins are a luxury. I would be happier with a top 5 pick, to get a difference maker on defence or an instant starter on the O line, than I would with a winning season.

    • Trade him? He just handed him a nice extension.
    • Yes, thanks, you’re right. When the Panthers traded to get the 1 is when Ballard said he didn’t have all the information to make the trade. That’s strange to me.  “Didn’t want to make a blind decision without all the information,” Ballard told reporters Monday. “I know for people, they might not understand that. But I think history kind of tells you that when you do that, you better know what you’re getting. And we weren’t quite ready to do that at that time. And then we feel like there’s enough depth in the draft that we were gonna be okay.”   This was in late March. Ballard had a chance to get the 1 and use it to take Stroud not Young. I think it’s strange he said he didn’t move up to 1 because it would have been a “blind decision.” Why would it be a blind decision in March? Why wouldn’t you know what you’re getting? You’re getting whoever you want if you get the 1. It didn’t happen, but Ballard could have recognized that Stroud was going to be superior, could have made the trade and could have drafted him. Ballard admits it never occurred to him to attempt the trade because it would be a “blind decision.”
    • I cringed after seeing the way his leg bent underneath him to the point of him sitting down on it. Buckner is one tough dude and to see him needing help to get off the field is when I knew he was going to be out for a while.
    • He probably felt confident Bowers would still be on the board at 15 once he made it past NYJ at 11.  He could've been trading up with other teams to move up to get Brock Bowers, but unfortunately, the Raiders had their eyes set on him and took him at 13.
    • Not now...   Let the year play out. Maybe at the end of the season...
