College Football 2024, surprise playoff teams

Is it too early ?

I think Syracuse is going to shock a lot of people. First time head coach who is a very good recruiter and got a lot of nice transfers. I think Kyle McCord going to eat up ACC defenses and their very favorable early schedule should allow the squad to mesh and backups get some significant early which should help later in the season.

Kansas State not as much a surprise but not many picking them to make the playoffs. Very good HC who has one of the best winning % among active coaches, Young QB who flashed when called in late last season. Very good rb's and no real stud Big 12 team (Utah likely biggest threat) to have to go through with Texas and Oklahoma gone.

I think Tennessee is a dark horse contender for the playoffs. Defensive line is gonna be pretty good. Lots of playmakers return on offense including Bru McCoy and a transfer WR Brazzell. Also have 5 star QB Iamaleava (sp?) back to lead the way. He had a very good showing against an Iowa defense in the bowl game.

Vols have a shot depending how badly the SEC beats each other up. Bama down a bit but Ole Miss up,  I think Texas picked 2nd in SEC is a bit high lost 2 elite wr's and though signed 2 transfer to replace think that fall off will come into play. Not to mention also lost a RB who was the 1st rb selected in the draft.

SEC could get as many as 4 in the playoffs (3 more likely but).

Syracuse got zero votes last week and took down Ga Tech who was at 22. McCord is putting up Madden numbers after two games with 750 yards and 8 tds. Oronde Gasden Jr may be the best TE in the nation if not def on a short list. Their D played much better then last week and now have some more winnable games (Though UNLV may be the best Group of 5 team in the nation).

Sanders is reportedly now demanding the Colorado University Band to not play the fight song after touchdowns, so that they can play his son’s rap music over the speakers…

Ridiculous. I fully support the band. They need to get Sanders out of town.

K State looked much better tonite then last week. Arizona was thought to be a top 5 team in the Big 12 but this one was a blowout. Johnson looked much more comfortable leading the squad both rbs scored and form a tough 1-2 and that Defense bent a few times but only allowed 7 points on the night.

UNLV IS the best Group of 5, they havent really even reached their peak of passing behind Matthew Sluka yet.

If Nebraska beats Indiana and Ohio State we will get in. That Ohio win would be huge. Indiana is crushing everyone, but they haven't played anyone either.

Indiana -3 Ucla was my top pick of the week and earned me some nice spending money. Rourke was surgical making every right decision, he may be better than his brother who is in the NFL. UCLA cant score so they weren't challenged. We will find out this weekend if Rutgers is as good as I think they are as they go to Va Tech who seems to have righted themselves. Monangai is a beast running the ball and doesnt seem to tire as the game goes on.

Wow been waiting for this one for awhile, what a slobberknocker...44-41 Syracuse in ot, knew it would hit the over, that was easy money. Both squads top 25 worthy. UNLV best group of 5 team I have seen so far with all due respect to Boise and Army who is destroying opponents. Cuse can play with anyone in the ACC, the McCord redemption tour continues.

    • Agree with most of that and as I said in an earlier post, this lack of accountability from Ballard, where he can say things like, "I do what I do and if I get fired so be it"?  It is wearing off on AR.  In other words Ballard is a very bad influence on AR.    For AR to say, after getting injured for the 100th time in 2 years....all on runs mind you.....not QB sacks.  All runs.  Where he can say "I do what I do (not sliding) and if the fans don't like it than whatever"?    I find that as inexcusable as Ballard saying if he gets fired for his beliefs that so be it.   News flash.  If what you are doing isn't working, in Ballard's case his team building approach and in  AR's case his lack of protecting himself approach, it might be time to try something different.  But neither one seems as if they are in any hurry to do that.    They seem to be feeding off each other in weakness.  Ballard needs to GO.  Before he wrecks AR for good.
    • Did we fire Bradley yet ? Asking for a friend of a friend of myself.
    • That is one thing that drives me crazy.  I realize there are salary cap implications, but when I see guys like D Adams or a Diggs being traded for a 4th rounder or something similar?  I just cringe that the Colts never get in on those trades.   Like any 5th rounder in the world will ever be a player as good as those guys.  To me, GMs like Ballard way way WAY overestimate the value of any pick beyond the second round.   Many of those guys will barely make the team, and if they do, they are very rarely are difference makers.   It is become that guys like Ballard think of these draft picks like gold nuggets. The truth are most are just Fools Gold.
    • We need to practice sideline tackling. I can do better at pushing a runner out-of-bounds from 1 foot away.
    • Watch Daniels game today.  It was a masterpiece in how to play the QB position as a running/passing QB.  He is in his 5th game as a rookie and I felt like I was watching a seasoned pro.  He was so good he didn't need to play the last quarter.  He ran I think 11 times and I don't know if he got hit more than once.  This is a guy who is 2 inches shorter than AR and at least 35 pounds lighter.   But he makes AR look like a grade schooler when it comes to being a running QB.   What I don't like about AR at this point is his complete lack of taking any accountability for getting hurt.  He doesn't slide.  He rarely runs out of bounds.   He runs into defenders and takes them on like he is a RB but instead of inflicting punishment?  He tends to let up at the very last second while at the same time being in the same position as if he was a RB.     It is very strange.  And judging by his words this week he doesn't seem to want to change.   I think AR has as much talent as any QB in the league.  But his mind?   And his ability to take pain?  I put that at the lower end of any QB in the league.  They need to sit him until he admits to himself, the team, and the fans that protecting himself is issue #1, 2, 3, and 4 through 100.  But I really don't think he gets it.    My prediction is he does not finish out the year because he will get hurt..........again.   In which case the Colts should fire Ballard (they should anyway) and try to get another QB to at least show AR that he is not going to just be given the starting job.    He needs to learn to play the right way, ala Daniels, or just retire.  Because no one he is going to last playing the way he is.
