Mets win and advance, the only home team to win in this Wild Card round was my Padres. 3 of the 4 series ended in 2 game sweeps, the same thing happened in 2022 when the 3 game Wild Card format first  began, and oddly enough, the Mets were also involved in a deciding Game 3 that year as well. Last season, all 4 of the Wild Card series were 2 game sweeps.

Howie Rose has some of the greatest calls. Years ago, the NY Rangers won a series and Rose had a memorable call of the winning shot. I don't follow hockey and I still remember it. It happened at least 25 years ago.

He's got more hits, plate appearances and a few other stats than anyone who has ever played the game. He belongs in Cooperstown but they were never going to let him in to enjoy it while he was alive but now that he's not anymore, there is no real justification for continuing to keep him out.

He'll never sign a picture or memorabilia  with the initials "HOF" after his name like others do but we'll see if MLB does the right thing now, I think they'll announce it after the World Series is finished.

I think I heard that he said he doesn't want to be inducted after he dies.

I personally don't think they should now for their own peace of mind yet denying him of the honor while living.

He did what was well known NOT ALLOWED by everyone and he paid the penalty for it.

Its ironic AND Hypocritical now that MLB's beloved Face of the Sport is someone that lost millions of dollars gambling and swept it under the rug and had his interpreter and best friend take the fall.

MLB is becoming more and more like the other sports..... But shouldn't be a surprise as they are in the same bed with networks/advertisers as the NBA & NFL.

I hope Pete Roses wishes are honored and he is not inducted.

With the Astro's & Orioles both being eliminated, the Yankees road to the World Series is paved in gold.

But they still need to play good baseball and have weaknesses that weren't sufficiently addressed at Trade Deadline.

Defense already a question mark and if Rizzo can't play it definitely takes a hit.

Then there's the Bullpen, especially without a shut down closer.

And timely hitting which is even more vulnerable to LH pitching.

If they play at the level they can they should overcome the Royals and Cleveland/Detroit.

In the NL its hard to go against the Dodgers, but their starting pitching is a weakness and I think the Padres are more complete of a team. And the Phillies were the best team much of the season.

I'm thinking the NL overcomes the AL representative.....but hopefully not if its my Yankees..

Wheeler was dominant, giving up only 1 hit to the Mets in 7 innings. Going to the 8th inning, the Phillies were leading 1-0. The Mets scored 5 runs in the 8th against Phillies relievers. They scored another run in the 9th. The Mets won 6-2.

In a 5 game series, getting Game 1 on the road is huge. Mets now have an 80% chance to win the series.

Don't worry. The Phillies have a very good team. I'm almost shocked that the Mets relievers were able to limit the Phillies to 2 runs all game. They are loaded. I wanted the Mets to extend Wheeler when we had him. Wheeler was drafted by the Giants, but the Mets traded for him while he was in the Giants farm system. We should have extended him.

We had a rough start to our series in LA, took the lead early but our  usually brilliant Manager made some questionable decisions like pitching to Shohei Ohtani with 1st base open and 2 runners on, and intentionally walking Mookie Betts to load the bases, while he already had 2 strikes in the at-bat. Both of these decisions preceeded crooked numbers being put up by the Dodgers, who overcame 2 run deficits twice to win Game 1 by 2 runs.

My Sunday went the same as yours, watching the Colts lose a close one, and then watching my Padres win a game that they needed to. Your game had higher drama late, while mine was basically over at the midway point and after some shenanigans from the Dodgers crowd, the Padres poured it on late and made a Max Muncy solo homerun in the 9th totally meaningless to the outcome, it made LA only lose by 8 runs instead of 9!

We had a wild one in San Diego last night that turned into a pitching duel as the Padres took Game 3. Mookie Betts hit a leadoff home run, but the Padres batted around against Walker Buehler and put up 6 runs in the 2nd inning. The next inning, Michael King gave up a grand slam to Teoscar Hernández and the lead was down to 1 - both starters exited the game after 5 innings, and the bullpens took over and there was no more scoring on the evening. The new additions acquired mid season like reliever Jason Adam & former Marlins closer Tanner Scott were both nails, as was Jeremiah Estrada who we claimed off waivers from the Cubs last year.

From OptaStats: The Padres are the 1st team to ever win a postseason game when allowing a grand slam, scoring in just 1 inning and not scoring after the 2nd inning.

The Mets know they're playing in Southern California on Sunday, on Friday night they'll find out exactly where, San Diego or Los Angeles.

Glad to see you posting. I cannot recall if it was you who lives/lived near Port St. Lucie. I used to go there for Mets Spring training games about 20 years ago. I heard there were some destructive tornadoes that hit the town today. I hope everyone is safe.

I don't want to play either the Dodgers or Padres. They are tough.

I live in Stuart, just north of Port St Lucie. I've been to a few Mets minor league games in PSL, that's a nice little stadium and very affordable.

Right now I'm getting alot of wind, but oddly no rain. St Lucie County did suffer some casualties today, mostly from tornadoes.

Padres at Dodgers, Game 5 for all the marbles. @NFLfan, Congrats on the Mets winning. They are hot at the right time. Happy Homer Simpson GIF
