Mike Zimmer to have emergency eye surgery

Whoa. I hope Mike will be okay. I still wonder how a retina just tears on it's own. Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not blaming Zimmer. My first thought was did a foreign object accidentally land in his eye or something?

I guess I just don't think of eyes as health hazards like say a heart attack or a stroke. Yes, I know about cataract surgery as a person grows older of course.

Anyway, I pray the procedure goes well with no complications, setbacks, or God forbid lost eyesight entirely. This has been a tough yr for Minnesota: Bridgewater down, AP down, & now this. Hang in there Vikings fans.

Yeah, anytime I think of how injuries have impacted the Colts season, I gotta think about the Vikings also.

It's been quite an unfortunate year for them.

This was Coach Zimmer's third eye procedure in one month.  I am pleased to hear that he will stay home and rest tonight.  One's health and well-being are more important than a game, IMO.

This has been a difficult year for Coach Zimmer. He lost his father to an illness. Many starters and reserve guys suffered season-ending injuries that have taken a toll on the team. And he himself has to miss a game with a health-related issue. And after starting 5-0, we have lost 5 of 6 games. Hopefully the team can get itself together and win enough games to make the playoffs.

Get well, Coach!

Retina tears are very common as a normal part of aging. Google if you wonder why.

I have a number of older relatives in my family on both my mother & father's side & zero have ever endured a retinal tear period. Chalk it up to carrots & luck I guess.

Often retinal tears go undiagnosed if they are small and asymptomatic -- unless the eye is examined by a retinal specialist with the best optics. No big deal unless they lead to retinal detachment and that's a huge deal, which is why tears are treated as an emergency.
