Could Manning Become The Gm?

This is a big if, but if Manning has to retire, why not make him the GM. I don't think he would be a good coach. He is too cerebral. I do think he would be a great GM. I know the timing is iffy, but he could be hired as GM in time for the draft if he cannot physically continue his career. I think that Irsay should run this by Peyton and then wait to pull the trigger on a new GM until more is clear about Peyton's future.

lol yea no...thats not possible because we need one right now to start signing and dropping players. We wont know about Peytons status til months from now before the draft. Thats too long. But Irsay said he will be looking this week for a new GM

Okay, I really would like to know why you think Peyton would make a good GM? Sometimes these comments about Peyton as GM or Peyton as Head Coach are just mind numbing, in my opinion. You don't just jump from player to GM, even if you were the greatest of all time at your position. We are talking about the difference between the "game" side of football, and the "business" side of football.

I doubt he would be a good GM. He has shown no skill, whatsoever, at manipulating the cap or evaluating talent. The GM position should be more like an agent or a businessman than a player. He would be much better at a coaching position. His skill is at breaking down defenses and calling plays. GMs have nothing to do with either.

It is amazing that this question keeps coming up. Why in the world would he want to? What in the world makes him qualified to be an executive of an NFL franchise?

Listen, Peyton will always be a Colt. However, I highly doubt that he is interested in a management career with the money he has made. The GM schedule is a way of life. Manning can go into TV and hardly work.

I'd like to see Peyton be the guy that paints the numbers on the field. He would be really good at it because he spent alot of time looking at these numbers and stuff and he probably knows alot about painted numbers and junk and stuff.

He could very well do something similar to Elway in Denver and control the football operations for the Colts. Then he could hire the GM and coach.

I can't stand Elway, but I respect the fact that he has a degree in (pause to search) Economics from one of the best schools in the known universe. He was a succesful businessman while playing, and got into sports management after playing. He is eminently qualitfied for the job.

I love Peyton, but regardless of what the piece of paper said, I suspect that he majored in football. There is just no reason to believe that he is qualified for or interested in doing what Elway has done.

And the OPs suggestion is just a silly leap of faith.

No if Peyton can't play anymore he is going to move in with my family and him and I will just hang out all the time. Just so he can be around forever.

    • To me, it’s also a non- story, but for a different reason.     Because Ryan Kelly, classy guy that he is, has chosen to make it a non-story.  No complaining.  No running to the media to try to generate sympathy.   No hold out OR hold in where you show up but tell the team you won’t practice without a new contract.   He could’ve done any of them.  He chose to do none of them.     I think Kelly is a classy guy.  easy to see why he’s voted a team captain, and I think the union rep.  I also think the Colts under Ballard are filled with classy guys who are easy to root for.  Honestly, it one of the biggest reasons I’ve stuck around since Luck retired.  It’s a fun team to cheer for.    So I like the team, the coaches,  the front office, the owner and the city.   Hope to make it to Indy one day to meet as many of you as I can.
    • No worries.   Wasn’t making fun of you.  If I had one dollar for every brain cramp moment I’ve posted here, I’d be rich!      It’s all good.
    • I'm very interested in Carlie's as well.  I'm just not sold on our starting LB core.
    • I also forgot to say I think Buffalo will also have a down year.
    • Yeah North.....maybe I got confused about the Pittsburgh Pirates playing in the central.  But I think before realignment there were only 3 divisions, I think.. Like the Colts and Dolphins played in the East, the Raiders and Broncos played in the West and the Steelers and Brownies played in the Central.  But yeah my mistake the Steelers currently in the North division.
