Bethea shout out

Just wanted to give some appreciation to Antoine Bethea. Not only did he have a good overall game. The hustle he showed to stop Bowe when he looked as though he was going to score that TD in the first quarter ended up being a huge play. The defense held KC to 3 instead which obviously we needed at the end to win 45-44.

I know everything had to happen just right for us to pull off the win. The Bethea run down and defensive goal line stance ended up being really big.

Just...I mean, okay.  Props to Bethea for running Bowe down. Yes, that was good.  However, it was the ONLY thing he did well all day.  He was also single-handedly responsible for 2 TD's of the Chiefs.

He jumped on the short route and completely sold Toler out on the Avery long TD.  He also bit on the Alex Smith scramble, allowing David to be wide open for a 2nd TD.  Bethea, overall, played terribly.

I'm not being negative.  That was a GREAT turnaround by the team, and I'm ecstatic that we won, but the W doesn't magically erase all the things we did terribly wrong on Saturday.

Thats not true they were bringing him down in the box a lot to help with the run. Both Bethea and Landrey played OK the Toler pass was not Bethea's fault that was 1 on 1 coverage by Toler & he shouldn't have even been out there he was obviously hurt!!

Great effort, Antoine. Mistakes will be made, they just will. I am sure that Andy Reid did a good job of adding wrinkles and play designs that we hadn't prepared for like the one incompletion that had the RB split out wide right and confused our secondary. Those dang 1 WR crossing screens were good play designs as well so I don't fault the mistakes to just the players. We have to be put in a position to make the play, and understand where the responsibility lies. I am sure that Bethea will be ready for BB this week as it's not his first rodeo against the *s.

He was GARBAGE Yesterday. Many others deserving of praise and he is not 1 of them.

So by that statement I guess you have nothing but dirt to throw on Luck since he got credit for 3 picks (even though I blame TY for the one in the...3rd qtr?). Heck, Luck should be benched for that garbage.

Look, the OP is just giving someone props for a specific play, not the whole game. When said in that perspective I agree with him 100 percent. That was a pure hustle play that saved us 4 points.

Also op said he had a good overall game so No you're wrong bout that.

They had Bethea playing to stop the run most of the game. Pagano said his job was to primarily help shut down Charles and then obviously Davis.

He made up a lot of ground in the box to make a play that saved us 4 pts. Those 4 points were crucial in the end.

Like I said a lot of things had to happen including that early TD saving tackle by Antoine.

We come up on the short end even after Lucks performance without that stop and defensive stand of course.

Loved when he showed that effort and detirmination to stop the TD and we ended up only giving up 3. Yea we gave up a lot of points but with the turnovers the Chiefs had a lot of short field to work with. Also Toler was no where near game ready, if he's not in Avery doesn't likely blow by anyone for his TD.

The little shovels and QB keepers were killing us, I was waiting for us to have someone hook zone the middle or just QB spy already. Can't deny though the D stepped up in the second half minus the one TD that again was short field thanks to the interception.

    • I guess the whole question is the merits of the report. You report on his diabetes with tons of guesses and speculations and WITHOUT taking the side of the person who's been affected here and who's living and dealing with that condition. You report on the player being uncoachable WITHOUT taking the opinion of his coaches about being coachable or not(and BTW from what I've heard both from Colts and Texas coaches, this is resoundingly NOT TRUE). You report about him being immature and honestly, everything I've seen on the surface suggests the opposite. You report about his combine performance by giving it a pretty harsh reading(the video is in this thread and the account of what happened by McGinn is in this thread... People can actually go and look at what happened and make their own mind about whether the characterization of that workout was fair or not. I will just say you can represent the player stumbling in a drill and going again in various different ways and McGinn chose a specific way to represent it. It was the most negative way you could choose).    You know I had my own reservations about that outburst by Ballard at the presser, but the more I'm learning about Mitchell the more I actually believe in what Ballard was saying and the less merit those reports have in my mind. Maybe I have my own unconscious biases too, now that I have vested interest in Mitchell actually being good for us. I don't know     I guess ultimately none of it matters. AD's success or failure won't depend on some pre-draft reports... it will depend on how he handles himself from now on, how hard he works, his drive to be great and our staff's ability to get the best of him.
    • Hmmm.   ”Healthy excuses will be hard to come by.”    Really?   Richardson, who had less than a thousand snaps in college, then had roughly 200 snaps his rookie year.  There’s one.   And Houston has Stroud who had a great rookie year.  Aren’t most media predicting Houston and JVille ahead of Indy this year?  That’s two without any trouble.     I just think insisting on a division title because a fan thinks it’s time doesn’t stand up to much scrutiny.   Sorry, just my two cents…. And often not worth that much.
    • For me absolutely it does. If Richardson stays healthy excuses will be hard to come up with. As positive as I am with Ballard at some point we have to start winning. He bet on himself by bringing in his own home grown talent this year, what he does at safety in the coming month and a half has me worried as well. We were so close to winning the division last year with a back up QB that my expectation is winning the AFC south this year.    If they make it into the wild card game and lose then the seat is just as hot for me. If they advance further and make a Cinderella run then I’m fully back on board.
    • 3 straight losses for the Reds. They have their moments where they play well. But it’s time to be real. They aren’t a playoff team and will never be as long as the Castillinis own them and David Bell is manager.    De La Cruz is fun, but his career will be wasted on this team.
    • Am I reading this correct?   You think Ballard’s seat gets hot if the Colts don't win the AFC South?  Really?   So if the Colts don’t win the south but make the playoffs Ballard’s seat still gets hot?    Just making sure I understand your viewpoint.
