Mock Draft From My Blog

Recommended Posts

Please keep in mind that this does not include any compensatory draft picks, or reflect any trading that the Colts might do, up, or down. The reason for multiple names on every pick (with the exception of Round 1) is that the player of preferred choice may or may not be available by the time the Colts are again on the clock. If there are any questions as to why I selected as I did, please leave a comment here or send a message to me and I will address it at a later date. (That is, if I can answer it. If not---I'll just ignore you! :) )

With that said, here we go!

Round 1: Pick 1: Andrew Luck (QB---Stanford)

Round 2: Pick 34: Dre Kirkpatrick (CB---Alabama), Stephen Gilmore (CB---South Carolina), Janoris Jenkins (CB---North Alabama)

Round 3: Pick 65: Peter Konz (C---Wisconsin), Phillip Blake (C---Baylor)

Round 4: Pick 97: Alameda Ta’amu (DT---Washington), Brandon Taylor, (FS---LSU), Derek Wolfe (DE/DT---Cincinnati)

Round 5: Pick 128: Shea McClellin (OLB---Boise State), Cordarro Law (OLB---Southern Miss)

Round 6: Pick 175*: Jarius Wright (WR---Arkansas), Derek Moye, (WR---Penn State)

Round 7: Pick 192: Randy Bullock (K---Texas A&M), Chase Ford (TE---Miami)

if the draft experts r correct peter konz is a low 1st high 2nd round pick.
Konz won't make it out of the first.

And that's why Blake is there.

Also, the Colts need a CB worse than they need a center, so I figured why waist a 2nd rounder on a center and miss out on the excellent cornerback class. Still, center is a need, so if Blake is still there in the first pick of the third, he is a must-take.

there are other needs more important than center, for example wide receiver or nose tackle

They are addressed appropriately as well.

An offensive line is key to a team's running game and passing game, in short, they are the key to a good offense. Right now is the time to draft a good offensive player in a high round to eventually or immediately replace Jeff Saturday. Blake, the center from Baylor, is a good run blocking center and is sure to have a major impact on the Colts future running game.

Defensive tackle is addressed in the following round, and there are still two quality players available in Alameda Ta’amu and Derek Wolfe.

Wide receiver is pretty much set at this point with Wayne and Collie. I do still draft a talented and speedy slot receiver though in round 6. With the new-found emphasis of the Colts sure to be on the running game, a three receiver set will not be used as often, but with these players, we would have a talented corps.

    • Ballard had no idea who Turray was till the Senior Bowl. His trait was he was the fastest off the snap there. So let's take him and see if we can make a football player out of him.  And your final answer - Ben Banogu  Well he was a State Champion wrestler so he should a good tackler, a real leader, plays with unknown tenacity, a step slow but - Rock ya-sin.   Dodds and his large team do the scouting, Ballard has an organization to manage. He/we have not risen to the top with his underlings following his process.  We have been stumbling, bumbling for a number of years for sure.    The good news is we can see some very solid pieces he did choose are  foundations for our current reboot. The South is going to be a real battleground like we haven't seen.
    • That’s my hope at least. We feel, more than any year in recent memory, primed to possibly go into next year’s off-season with no major holes (assuming we re-sign our FAs or our depth looks ready to step up). That lets us take BPA or try again to move up for an elite prospect. But there are a lot of IFs here (IF our DBs have an improved year. IF we don’t have any major fall offs in performance. IF we don’t have any late season major injuries, IF our rookies this coming year show us their trajectory is still high.   I would classify myself as cautiously amped moving forward haha.
    • This just seems like the second guessing fans love to do with anything the Colts do. Had they done the reverse of what they did there would be a thread about that.  Nothing wrong with it fans are free to do that here.   i will say a fifth year option and a punters contract aren’t going to make or break Ballard no matter how they workout.
    • Reds are now into a 6 game losing streak... Outscored 34-10 during this timespan. As of right now, they are officially the worst performing team in baseball.    Something has to give... Can't even have a fire sale right now because none of the players are good enough to trade off...
    • What sucks about losing Game 1 is, it makes Game 2 a must win. We brought great energy in Game 1, our bench outscored their bench 46-3 but Brunson had a monster game to make up for most of that. Not sure all of our players can bring that kind of energy again, having said that Haliburton can't play any worse unless his back is just really bothering him badly.    Can't fall down 0-2 - that is a steep hill to climb. 1-1 gives us a legit chance of winning this series. We got Game 2 at Milwaukee to tie it 1-1 and won in 6. We will see how it goes down. I can almost promise everyone this, the REFS won't be near as bad, they are on watch now.
