Comparisons to Cam and Dalton

It's been said a number of times now that Cam Newton and Andy Dalton did so well in their rookie seasons at QB without OTAs, so that is relevant in some way to Luck's situation. I say that's comparing apples to oranges. Everyone keeps forgetting that defenses last year also had no OTAs. So maybe that's partly why these two rooks did so well. It may be a completely different story this year.

It's apples to oranges for many reasons. Dalton had one of the best defenses in the league behind him and AJ Green to throw to. The Bengals' offensive line wasn't too shabby either. As for Cam, he had Jon Stewart and DeAngelo Williams behind him. And Cam is 6'5" 250lbs, Luck is 6'4" 235 lbs. I don't want to see Luck running as much as Cam did. And while Cam had a lot of personal success, his team didn't do so well. It just goes to show you that while it is a QB driven league, you can't win with just a good QB and few other pieces. You need playmakers on both sides of the ball.

Well, yeah, defenses had no OTAs either, but defensive schemes are much easier to learn than offensive plays. The offenses were simplified for the rookies this past season, so it may be difficult for the second year players this year, and it may be to the point that they resemble the newcoming rookies of this year.
