I'm pretty sure the NFL started using K balls in 1999. Don't bet the farm on my aged memory. -

Dave Raynor. I can’t remember what year the NFL switched to the K balls, but the Colts kickoffs had been very short along with terrible coverage units. Neither Vanderjagt or Hunter Smith could get it near the endzone. Raynor was also supposed to be a guy who could boom long field goals. It was a failed experiment. His kickoffs weren’t that great and it wasn’t worth burning a roster spot. -
Nice prediction. With his availability and accuracy issues he might be the perfect guy to match the “incomparable Raiders’ great” JaMarcus Russell.
