2006Coltsbestever
Baseball is such a long season, so I know better than anyone to just give up on my team before mid-July. Here we are mid-July and the Cubs have won 4 in a row but now go to St. Louis for a 4-game set. I don't expect a sweep (that is asking way too much) but if we can get 3 out of 4 then we need to stay the course. We are currently a half game out of 3rd place behind the Pirates in the Central and 4 games behind the Cards for a WC spot. If the Cards tear us a new one like win all 4 or even 3 of 4, it's over then IMO. We need 3 of these to prove keeping this team together is worth it.
RollerColt
Reds have been winning lately, but so has literally everyone else in the division and the league. So while they’re almost back to .500, they haven’t made any progress for a wildcard spot and are still basically tied for last place. At least they’ve been fun to watch for a couple days.

Cubs just won their 5th in row, the Professor looked great for a change. Big win over the Cards. I am not sure what has lit a fire with this team but I hope we can keep it going. It's jumbled up again between the Cubs, Reds, Pirates. Cubs and Reds are at 46-49, Pirates 46-48.

I can picture everyone loving the Cowboys there and liking the Texans because of Stroud. I hope somehow, we can win the division so maybe some people will jump on our bandwagon. I can't see myself ever leaving Indianapolis. I was born and raised here and at 53, I am too old for a big move lol. When we fell to 41-49, I quit watching out of disappointment. The Cubs won 5 in a row, and I didn't watch any of the games, just seen the scores. I watched the double header yesterday and we lost both. I didn't watch a single pitch today and just looked at the score and we won 8-3. Cubs really needed to win 3-1 because we gained 0 ground on the Cards!, but 2-2 may keep them from selling. 47-51 isn't what I expected so far, but the Reds are 47-50 and Pirates 47-48. So, it is still bunched up. On a sidenote: we should have won the 2nd game of that double header, once again Counsell screwed it up over thinking things.

Fair point but my train of thought is always, if you are up with 6 outs to get, you should win. Good teams know how to close, that is why as of now, I don't think the Cubs are good. On paper, Cubs have the best team in the Division or it's even with the Brewers, Cubs are simply underachieving badly and IMO it is all on the Manager. Cubs have blown at least 7 or 8 games when they have had leads going to the 8th, that is losing Baseball.

Myles
On case anyone is interested. 2024 MLB Playoff format: How does the MLB postseason work? FOX Sports Published July 27, 2023 12:19pm EDT | Updated July 27, 2023 12:20pm EDT Facebook Twitter Flipboard Print Email Back in 2022, the MLB introduced a new playoff format focused on two key areas — more teams and an expanded Wild Card round. Here's everything you need to know about the MLB postseason format: How many teams reach the MLB playoffs? How many Wild Card teams are there? 12 teams will make the MLB playoffs — six from both the American League and National League. This is an increase over the previous format which had 10 teams. This is broken out with three division winners in the AL and NL as well as three Wild Card teams. How are the teams seeded? Each league uses the same seeding format below: No. 1 seed: Best record in the AL or NL No. 2 seed: Second-best record for a division winner No. 3 seed: Third-best record for a division winner No. 4 seed: Best record for Wild Card teams No. 5 seed: Second-best record for Wild Card teams No. 6 seed: Third-best record for Wild Card teams The first and second seeds in each league receive a bye and advance automatically to the Division Series. The Wild Card Series features each league’s No. 3 seed against the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed against the No. 5 seed. How many rounds are in the MLB Playoffs? There are four rounds: Wild Card Round Divisional Round League Championship Round World Series What happened to the Wild Card Game? The single-elimination Wild Card game was replaced with a best-of-three Wild Card Series. What’s the format for the Wild Card Series? The higher-seeded team (No. 3 and No. 4) in each series will host all three games. The games will take place on three consecutive days. Will the MLB playoffs have reseeding? There will be no reseeding in this format. The winner of the No. 4- and 5-seeded matchup will advance to the Division Series and play the No. 1 seed. The winner of the No. 3 and 6 seeded series will take on the No. 2 seed. The goal is to keep the No. 1 seed from having to face a divisional winner until the League Championship Round. What are the division title tiebreakers? Tiebreaker games, also known as Game 163, are not used anymore. Ties are solved by head-to-head record initially. If there is still a tie, other factors are considered such as: Record against other teams in their division Record against other teams in their league, but outside their division Record of last half of intraleague games Record of last half of intraleague games plus one Which team gets home-field advantage in the World Series? The team with the best record in the regular season gets to begin the World Series (and potentially host Game 7) at their home ballpark regardless of playoff seeding. If two teams have the same record, they use a tiebreaker system based on the division tiebreaker rules.
2006Coltsbestever
The Cubs recently took 3 out of 4 from the Cards and the game they lost was because of dropped pop fly - typical Cubs loss (we should have won all 4). Beating the Cards 3 of 4 didn't even get me excited because this Cubs team simply just doesn't have it this year at 57-60, as of August 8th. Counsell is very overrated as a manager and when I was closely watching which were the 1st 90 games or so, his decision making regarding when to leave Pitchers in or take them out got me so upset, I couldn't even watch anymore. Not only that, the team is sloppy fundamentally, that is on the Manager and staff. Since the Cubs got really good which was in 2015 when we won 97 games, this has been the most disappointing season I have went through over the last 10 seasons being 2024 because of expectation = (2015-2024). Cubs have only had 2 bad seasons in this 10-season timeframe = 2021 and 2022 but that was expected because they got rid of most of their team that help them win the WS in 2016 and were rebuilding. I truly miss the days of Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javy Baez, Jake Arrieta, Jon Lester, and Fastball Chapman! I will always have that team who went 103-58 and won it all in 2016. One last thing, it is a miracle we aren't in last place in the NL Central this season, we are currently a half game ahead of the Reds.

I am so disgusted by their play that I haven't watched a full game in over a month. I will click the remote over to the channel they are on for a few minutes to see the score, then go to something else. I check the box scores to see if they won or lost and that's about it. I tried watching again, then Armstrong drops a pop fly against the Cards which cost them the game, I was like that is it for me. I love the Cubs, will always be a fan, and I can say we even had a GREAT 6-year stretch from 2015-2020 with 3 Division Titles = 2016, 2017, 2020, a WS Championship in 2016, and an overall record of 505-365 which = to a 58% winnings. In those 6 seasons, I could finally feel like what a Cards or Yankees feel like. At least I had that for a while.

I was only up watching it because I suffer from chronic nausea and dizziness (hence why I'm on this website so much, for some dang reason reading the Colts forum gets me through the worst of it!). And lo and behold the Reds go off on one of the most insane 10th innings I've seen in years. 7 runs scored. Complete implosion by the Marlins pitching (maybe they should've kept Bryan Hoeing instead of trading him to the Padres!). Reds end up winning 10-6. Just went I throw the team to the side and throw my hands up, the Reds do something nuts like this and bring me right back in again... I totally feel with Rich Eisen on his love hate relationship and suffering as a Jets fan. I think all Reds fans of my generation experience the same pain...

Overall, I consider myself lucky as a fan of the Cubs, Colts, and Pacers, and now I have Clark in the WNBA. She is something else! I was able to watch the entire Peyton era while I was in my 20's and 30's here and win a Championship in 2006 - my true party days . I seen the Cubs finally win a WS in 2016. The Pacers have never won an NBA Championship but have been to a lot of Final 4's = 1994, 95, 98, 99, 2000, 2004, 2013, 2014, and this past season was a blast in 2024. We did make the Finals in 2000 as well with Reggie. 9 Final 4's.
