I know he is undersized and only fits in a 4-3, but we could draft him and play him at SS. He is very fast (runs a 4.4), great tackler, and has above average coverage skills.

Fixed that for ya. He's a LB man plain and simple. Watched him play at the U his entire time there and he's not a safety haha. He should do good at LB despite being 5'11-6'0, but he wouldn't fit the colts very well now. If this was last year before then yes, but not now.

What planet is this. A guy who can play OLB in a 4-3 can also play one in a 3-4. Same thing goes for MLB.

The same might not be said for a DE or DT, in certain situations, but what League are you guys watching where there is a 4-3 LB and all of a sudden he can't play for that team because they are 3-4 now.

He is 5'11 225-230lbs....Do you really expect him to play in a 3-4?

He is only 220 pounds and he runs a 4.5 and a SS job is to be able to cover an help in run support. Spence is a very small LB who can cover very well im pretty sure he can fit at SS.

Ok let me explain how out planet works.

A 4-3 OLB has to have good cover skills who can also help stop the run. They are suppose to be fast and the ideal size is between 5'9 to 6'0 and 220lbs to 235lbs.

Ok and a 3-4 OLB has ways different assignments. They have to specialize in rushing the passer. Being a OLB in a 3-4 being able to cover helps but its not a big deal. The ideal size for a 3-4 OLB is 5'10" to 6'3" and being 245lbs to 265lbs.

Idk what planet your from but a 3-4 OLB is way different than a 4-3 LB.

We tend to be too enamoured by a guy's height and weight, and less enamoured by their football skills.

The fact is, some guys are good football players, and other guys aren't. I believe Pagano said it, 'you have to have a balance of big/strong guys, and fast/smaller guys.' I remember Belicheck saying you don't worry so much about a guy's system, every team has different guys that do different jobs. On a D-line you either have block occupiers, run lane cloggers, or pass rushers. Your LBs are either coverage guys, hole stuffers, or pass rushers. Your CBs are either zone, man, press, or bump & run. Your Safeties normally play in the box, or drop back and play centerfield. That's not to say there aren't guys who can do multiple things, but most guys have their own preferences and stronger abilities. Football is about finding the balance.

Dude I just check all the 3-4 teams and there are guys who are 6-1 225 pounds.

And the ideal size for a DE is 6'3 and freeney is what 6 flat. Drew is 5'7, Sanders was 5'7 but the ideal height was 6 feet for safeties and 5'10 for RB.

So, yes, Last I heard this is Earth not Mars.

not that i don't believe you, but how many outside lbs in a 34 excel ath 6'1 225? like pagano said...this is a big man's game. there may be some exceptions, but in gerneral he is correct.

Were you looking at high school football players?? There are almost no 3-4 OLBs who are 220lbs. James Harrison, Demarcus Ware, Brian Orakpo, Mario Williams, and Cameron Wake are probably the top 3-4 OLBs in the league and they all weight over 240lbs. Being a 4-3 and a 3-4 is way different then you think.

Next you will say Freeney can play DE in a 3-4.

    • Tyquan Lewis signed a 2-year, $12mm contract this year. After 4 more weeks, he'll have missed 52% of the games in his career, and started only 29%.  And he's only started games when others were unable to play.  He's not a "starter".   Don't know about releasing him after this year, with one more year go to.  But I don't think he'll be worth keeping after 2025. "The greatest ability is availability."   2018 - 8 games played, 6 games started, 8 games missed 2019 - 9 games played, 0 games started, 7 games missed 2020 - 16 games played, 4 games started, 0 games missed 2021 - 8 games played, 2 games started, 8 games missed 2022 - 7 games played, 4 games started, 9 games missed 2023 - 17 games played, 0 games started, 0 games missed 2024 (four weeks from now) - 4 games played, 4 games started, 4 games missed Totals - 69 games played, 20 games started, 36 games missed
    • He probably hyper extended his elbow. If it was dislocated it would probably be season ending.
    • The good news is if it’s only 4 games we should get Buck and Tyquan back when the really hard part of the schedule starts. Bad news they need to win against these weaker teams next few weeks.
    • It seemed weird he kept ten but now it looks like a genius
    • Glad Ballard brought in so much depth at DE.
