Unreal Expectations

I think that this speaks to expectations being too high for the Colts. We have a franchise QB, a good core of WRs, a good your TE, a good CB, and solid kickers.  But the rest of our talent is average.  I think Pagano has the ability to motivate a team but I question if his ceiling as as a coach is any higher.  The OC is still learning.  Now we have lost our best defensive player for the season.  I think we may get more push back within the AFC South than we expected too.

I think it's fine to hope for your team to have a great year. But acting like anything less than absolute dominance every week is a failure is a weird way to express disappointment.

Does it need to be explained to you?  I know he was exaggerating... that was the point, I thought a post about being realistic should be you know, realistic.  You were accusing me of missing sarcasm while at the same time you are missing it as well.  Thus the pot/kettle thing.

If you would care to re read your response to lennymoore24 then you will see that your response did not show you thought it was sarcasm. All people have to go on is written comments and responses without the ability to read minds.

Denver D is not impressive, but we made them look like they were the Texans or Ravens, who have good D's. This is apparent by how we pushed then around in the second half.

The Colts play in the second half was due to making adjustments and getting over the first half jitters of being in Denver opening game, Manning and the crowd. The second half play was because the adjustments and verbal messages from coaches. The Colts offense just executed what it is capable of doing. I think you may a little off by saying Denver's defense is not impressive.

Ok, I reread it.  And I can tell you, I still knew the stats were sarcasm.

I just found it humorous that a realistic thread about unrealistic expectations mentioned unrealistic expectations that have never been realistically stated and then to point to those unrealistically unrealistic expectations and telling people to be realistic.  Why not use realistic examples of unrealistic expectations and and tell people to be realistic?  Additionally, it's unrealistic to think that telling unrealistic people with unrealistic expectations to be realistic will actually make them be realistic.

It seems some fans just have urealistic expectations of how the Colts should perform each week. By some posts you would think the expectations are:

- Luck throws 8 TDs, no INTs
- Richardson runs for 200 yards on 5 carriers
- O-Line gives up no sacks
- D-Line gets 15 sacks
- No player on the other team ever catches a ball
- The opposing QB is reduced to Ryan Leaf status.

Its not going to happen!  Lets be realistic.  For example, I see criticism of the offensive line's pass blocking against Denver.  So Luck dropped back over 50 times, facing Vonn Miller and DeMarcus Ware and you are faulting the pressure he got?  But on the flipside, Bjorn Werner goes up against a top LT in Ryan Clady and is ripped because he doesn't get more pressure. Or the Fleener bashing when a ball was throw very high and he didn't catch it.  Curious, did anyone on the Broncos ever drop a pass??  YES!!  Did Manning ever miss a pass?  YES!  Julius Thomas is a nightmere for ANY team to stop.  So not sure why you are so outraged that we didn't hold him to no catches. Manning IS going to complete passes to playmakers and they are going to make plays.

I just think it would be beneficial to tone down some expectations.  We aren't going to win ever battle at every position.  And if we lose some, the guy doesn't have to be replaced immediated because he is a bum.  Be realistic!  Teams are fairly evenly matched in the NFL.  That is why on any given Sunday anything can happen.

The television coverage isn`t what it used to be regarding showing replays.

Most here IMO, don`t really see that much of what is really happening on the field. So expectations ARE all over the place.

Like, boy our tackles played great. Kooky or a financial interest!

What's even kookier is when posters, like that throwing bbz guy, don't even watch the games and make comments.

    • Colts are blessed to have such a great owner !
    • Okay, I know this is a Mr. Obvious post, but bear with me.  What else do you have to do during the dead season, lol?   As a Buckeye, I appreciate how good CJ Stroud is.  In MHO CJ had better WRs and RBs when he was at THE OSU than he has in Houston.   So how did TTUN beat us (bad) two years in a row when he was in Columbus?  Simple, their Offense was way better than our Defense.   Bottom line - the Colts D doesn't have to be great.  Average will be good enough - IF the Colts offense is as good as we think it could be and play ball control, has extended drives, and limits the other teams possessions.  And maybe that's the plan considering Ballard not being too concerned with improving the DB rooms.   (Sure, it would be nice to have a great D.  No argument there)
    • Hey Everyone,   So, I just caught wind of Goodson's apology letter after dropping that short pass from Minshew against the Texans last season. Here's my humorous take on the situation:   "Dear Fans, Coaches, Teammates, and Supporters,   I'm writing to apologize for buttering up that short pass in the most critical moment against the Texans. Look, I know I'm the backup running back, but hey, I'm usually good for catching those short throws - emphasis on 'usually'. My bad for turning a routine play into a blooper reel moment.   To my teammates, sorry for making you wonder if I was secretly playing for the other team. Next time, I'll practice catching more than just footballs thrown by the water boy.   To the coaches, maybe let's reconsider throwing short passes to guys who have hands that are more slippery than a greased pig at the county fair. Just a suggestion.   And to the fans, thanks for turning my drop into a meme. I promise to work on my catching skills so I can make highlights, not lowlights, next season.   Sincerely, Goodson (aka the running back who should stick to running)"   Okay, maybe I exaggerated a bit, but you get the gist. Let's hope Goodson has been hitting those catching drills hard this offseason!
    • I remember looking for highlights of TJ after we drafted him.  I kept finding videos of him following OJ Howard into the endzone.  Not sure if Howard was his responsibility, but it didn't paint a promising picture.
    • Ballard,   So, yeah, about that whole "bust" thing—I guess the cat's out of the bag. Turns out, I'm more of a popcorn fart than a thunderclap. My bad.   When you drafted me, I thought I was gonna be the Colts' next big thing. You know, sacking quarterbacks, making highlight reels, maybe even getting my face on a cereal box someday. But instead, I've been about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.   I've watched the tapes, Coach. I've seen the memes. They're comparing my NFL career to a hangover—starts off with high hopes, and ends with regret and a lot of Gatorade. And honestly, I get it. I'm like that guest who shows up to a party uninvited and ends up eating all the chips.   So, here's my mea culpa. I apologize for not living up to the hype. For every missed tackle, every missed sack, and that one time I accidentally tackled our own quarterback in practice (sorry, Philip). I'm like the guy who brings a guitar to a party and insists on playing Wonderwall—I'm annoying and not nearly as good as I think I am.   But hey, I'm not giving up. I'm hitting the gym, studying film (mostly bloopers at this point), and practicing my touchdown dance for when pigs finally fly. I promise to work harder and maybe, just maybe, I'll redeem myself and earn my place in the Hall of Mediocrity.   Thanks for believing in me, and letting me live my dream for 4 years straight whilst simultaneously producing nothing for your team. I'll make you proud yet, even if it's just by being the team's MVP of Bust Central, and we aren't talking bronze heads.    Sincerely, Ben "The Bust" Banagous (Not sponsored by Gatorade yet, but a guy can dream)
