No they didn't. Pettine said he would continue to evaluate because they both played badly and I guess management got on him about the middle finger incident or the fact that they need a starter named, and he named Hoyer the starter two days after the game, citing reasons such as "We need cohesion with a starter for the first game against Pittsburgh", even though he clearly wasn't worried about that the day after the game. But hey, whatever.
