If We Have 3 Of The Top 33 Picks...who Do You Want?

Recommended Posts

lol...fair enough..he didn't specify exactly what picks they'd be. Though the trade means we would lose the #1 pick and therefore we'd lost the opportunity at Luck too unless somehow he drops from the #1 pick.

If we could trade the #1 for 2 first round picks that would still allow us to get Brandon Thompson and Morris Claiborn in the first round, and Manti Te'o in the 2nd round.....I think I'd have to take a cold shower after the draft. lol

If we were to trade the pick, i would draft those two guys if possible.

How about: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB from Alabama, Dont'a Hightower, ILB from Alabama, and Courtney Upshaw, OLB from Alabama. Then in the 3rd round we could take Mark Barron, SS from Alabama. That'd be pretty sweet! They are all excellent players, and they've already got the continuity thing down. We could switch to a 3-4 defense with a lineup something like this:

DE- Robert Mathis

DT- Drake Nevis

DE- Dwight Freeney

OLB- Pat Angerer

ILB- Donta Hightower

ILB- Courtney Upshaw

OLB- Kavell Conner/Jerry Hughes

CB- Dre Kirkpatrick

SS- Mark Barron

FS- Antoine Bethea

CB- Jerrod Powers

Thoughts?

That's a small dline for a 3-4 team.

True, but perhaps with the size of Hightower and Upshaw at the LBs, and Mark Barron at SS, the lack of d-line size could be compensated for.

Or perhaps, say we lose Mathis to free agency and sign Paul Soliai, DT from the dolphins (6'4", 355lbs). Then we could have a d-line of:

DE- Drake Nevis

DT- Paul Soliai

DE- Dwight Freeney

I heard the Panthers are going with a 3-4 next year, so why not the Colts, especially if Peyton does not come back.

If Peyton does not come back, make Mathis and Freeney OLBs, with Wheeler, Angerer and Hughes as OLB backups. Make Moala and Anderson the DEs with Brayton as a DE backup. Nevis and AJ can be part of the NT rotation. Kavell Conner, who is already lost in coverage, does not have a place in the 3-4, IMO.

Draft/obtain in free agency a 3-4 MLB, 3-4 NT and 2 man corners - so technically, by adding just 4 to 5 pieces, we can become a 3-4 D.

There are so many possibilities, who knows what picks we will end up with. I'll give two different lists based on 2 different scenarios:

-We keep the #1 pick...

Round 1: QB Andrew Luck

Round 2: CB Alfonso Denard, or S Mark Barron

Round 3: Best available OG/CB/DT

-We trade the #1 pick and acquire multiple mid-round picks in the 1st and 2nd round...

Round 1: CB Morris Claiborne (he is my most-wanted player in the draft)

Round 1: OG David DeCastro

Round 2: CB Alfonso Denard, or S Mark Barron

Round 2: DT Jared Crick, or WR Jeff Fuller, or QB Nick Foles

That's right..any 3

WE could trade our No.1 for Miami's 1 & 2...and we'd draft 2, 33 and 34..

But there are two teams with two No. 1s..

not going to happen. If the Polians are picking, those 2 picks are going to be misses anyway. Why not pick the can't-miss prospect every NFL scout unanimously agrees upon...

    • I dont understand the Matt Gay hate.   Historically I believe 50 yard FGs are about a 65-67% kick.   Last year 5 of his 8 misses were from 50+.   He was 8-13 from 50+, which is about 62%. He was 25-28 on the rest of his kicks which is almost 90%. If he was battling injuries I think that would explain why he stuggled more with longer kicks.
    • Yeah I didn't like the comment either
    • I agree. One of the fans who has criticized AR's game was MIA after the first game, but after this last game, he is very active and criticizing AR. Granted, AR did not have a good game this past Sunday, but every QB has good and bad games. Folks are being overly critical of him.   I don't attribute the first loss to AR; in fact, I think the Colts had a chance to win the Houston game because of AR's play. But those that don't like AR will not give him any credit. Flacco would not have won the Texans game. JMO.
    • Said it weeks back and was slammed, Matt Gay is toast, time to IR him and be done with the games
    • What a bunch of silly silly posters we have. He doesn't have to question himself. He has a host of employees that look at every possibility to improve the team and bring their ideas forward to be considered. Ballard at that point would still have others involved helping choose the best way forward. Bringing players in to work out often being a part of the process.   And yes the players and their agents get to look at what interest they have, who they would be coached by, potential playing time.   That said, I say trade Ballard, Gus and his coaching buddies for draft picks.
