Ron Meeks was one of the longer lasting DCs.  He was here for around 7 seasons.

Vince Tobin/Jim Johnson back in the days when the Colts were a defensive team. 

 

If we are talking just wins though (which is how most people measure success) it's Ron Meeks hands down even if people don't like him.  A major assist would have to go to Dungy and Manning though.  Still I think Tobin and Jim Johnson's defense's during the Harbaugh years were pretty darn good.

Yep, the '95 Colts, I believe, were a top 5 defense.  However, it was very short-lived and went down hill as soon as Tony 'The Goose' Siragusa signed with Baltimore.  That defense would have really been something if Steve Etmann wasn't chronically injured.
