Dan Marino Era Dolphins RB's

Dan Marino...still rated as my #1 qb of all time....but Peyton is getting closer and closer....I go back and forth between Dan and Unitas all the time...I guess I just like them all for different things.

The thing with Marino is he could never beat Kelly's Bills. He had some great teams in the early 90's but Kelly always beat him.

I tend to agree. He beat the 85 Bears defense and was the only one that did that season. I would love to see what Manning could do against that D..if anything. :) I mean you didn't out smart them because they could just overwhelm you

But remember who he lost in the AFC champ game at home with a three pick performance. ;)   Honestly that had to be the worst loss of his career. That Pats team was not very good at all.

Was it 3. It was really Craig James running that sealed that game. Whatta ya mean- that was a pretty good team. John Hannah.

Tony Eason- well until the Bears D gunned shy'd him for life.

edit- oh and Don Blackmon, Andre Tippett, Stanley "steamer" Morgan, Steve Nelson <ahem>, Claborn, Roland James... :)

and Raymond Berry coach

I thought the 1985 Fins team was the best team Marino had. I may be wrong as I have not looked at all his seasons. But previous to that game, the Pats had never won at the old Orange Bowl.

I believe the Pats were the last seed into the playoffs that year and had to win three road games - at NY, at Oakland, at Miami. Probably should have lost all of them but they were on a magic carpet ride until that Bears team. :gloomy:

Maybe that was the year Marino had his best. I know he was talked a lot about.

Yeah they were the first team as a WC to win 3 on the road.

Pats did have some magic-mostly backed up by Raymond Berry fundamental football. Every practice he would have the players stand in a circle and bounce the football around to get the feel the way it bounces.

Playoffs-

1st game in NY against the Jets- fumble for a score.  Then Oakland-KO at 4pm and sun in their eyes. Boom fumble for a score. You could just feel the magic.

Miami same thing plus a strong motivation to squish the fish and finally win in the Orange Bowl.

Even the opening  quarter in the Bears game they got a fumble and had a lead for a short time. Then the Bears defense as expected just shut it all down.

They also got there because of Andre Tippet. After having leads in a game and then finding every which way to lose at the end, Tippet finally went on a rage against the players in the locker room after such a loss. Then they started winning :)

It was a great run and came out of nowhere kind of like 2001. I loved that 1985 team but when discussing Marino it has to be brought it up that he lost at home to the lowest seed in the AFC. And really that was his penchant in the post-season. People can blame his team if they want and that is probably partly true but he was never able to do enough to win the post-season either. He was for sure the best pure passer of the ball IMO but far from being the best QB.

We beat then 31-14- Dan had 2 TDs and 2 INTS -  48% pass compl. Not his best game.

1984 was the year he threw 48 TDs which I think is better than Manning & Brady because of passing rules.

Klusons will be better quality. I'm guessing the gold/pearloid would be more attractive depending on the model strat & color

combination. Do you hang at any guitar related forums as well?

Klusons look so much better than the Sperzels, which is what everyone seems to like putting on their Fenders. I have a 62 reissue that was made in Japan in 88. Love that guitar. Seafoam green.

Bet you chose the seafoam Green because of the dude in your avatar.   Klusons are what were originally used in the 50s & 60s so they are the logical choice & the better quality as well.

I am glad I started this thread now, it's great to see so many people also look into the Dolphins and find them interesting.

The 90's had some of my favorite Dolphins teams that never made it anywhere.

I remember them putting up a great rivalry with the Bills

Here's some rather insanity

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199512300buf.htm

64 passes from Marino, only 14 rushes total on the day but still 70 yards with the rush.

Seems they were doomed to drop this one anyway since Buffalo had over 300+ yards rushing on the day.

1992 Team that lost the AFFCG to Buffalo before the Bills went to get massacred by Dallas

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199301170mia.htm

I felt that 92 team was special. They lost a couple divisional games and got crushed SF and NO's defenses, but other than that they looked like one of the top 5 teams that year. No question they still would have been crushed by Dallas in the Super Bowl, but it would have been more interesting than to see the turnover fest that came of the Bills poor play against a Dallas team ready for them.

    • Just thought about it this morning as I was reevaluating things.     Maybe he could be a big 3rd or 4th RB, with the ability to line up and lead block?
    • I really do think we will be bringing in Diggs. Diggs has just kept himself inserted in Colts news.     Probably not Simmons though.     Definitely think we will bring in a vet RB, sometime from now to beginning of camp.     With how the draft played out I see a vet CB as well to battle for that 4th outside spot.
    • A. Rich. has a lot to work with this year.  Ballard did a real stomp down job!
    • I haven’t been on the board in awhile but same thoughts here. I didn’t think he’d get out of the top ten.
    • A+   Laiatu Latu - The kinda guy I've been clamouring for for a long time now and specifically the guy I hoped we'd get this draft. I'm SUPER excited about this pick. If Latu turns into our Hendrickson/Crossby/Bosa the rest of the players in this draft can bust and it would still be A+ in my opinion. Technician without equal and still athletic. There's just so much to love about this guy. Steal #1.   Adonai Mitchell - Steal #2. Ballard stood tall on the hill defending this guy and reportedly Steichen and Wayne have been pounding the table for this guy for some time... and they got him AFTER a trade back? Bruh! Steal! Super athletic and has beat up on some of the top CBs in this draft.   Matt Goncalves - We've needed to upgrade our OL depth and Goncalves can play all over the line. Solid pick!   Tanor Bortolini - Quite possibly our future OC. Super athletic - broke Jason Kelce's 3-cone record at the combine. Love this pick!   Anthony Gould - This could potentially turn out to be a genius move by Ballard & Co. The new return rules means having a good returner is extra important and Gould is likely one of the best in the draft! We also needed a good backup behind Downs since McKenzie left.   Jaylon Carlies - After last season I felt like we needed to upgrade our coverage ability at the LB position. This is a move to do just that. Love it!   Jaylin Simpson - We needed to at least add competition at the FS spot. With us picking Simpson and last years 5th rounder Daniel Scott returning (who Ballard seems really excited about), we seem to be set with young talent there. Maybe we add a vet? Like this pick.   Micah Abraham - Don't know much about him, but he has the pedigree. Doesn't fit Ballard's typical athletic profile, so they must have seen something on tape they REALLY like.   Jonah Laulu - The Colts brought him in for a top 30 visit and he fits their athletic profile. Project. Solid pick in the 7th.
