All I keep hearing is how bad the Colts need a QB, Manning wont be back or if he is he may not be 100% and on and on. IMO Dan Orlovsky did a good job at QB and I'm not ready to give up on Peyton Manning just yet either. The holes that appeared this year are the same holes that have been there for a few years now. The Colts need an elite RB and a much improved Defense! Our passing game would be great again with Peyton at the healm if we had a RB that could actually put up some big rushing yards!
Everyone loves winners, and even though the Colts were always favorite to win a game, they always managed to exit early in the playoffs which was always a huge upset, at least for me. But with the Colts, and Payton Manning it is different; it is more then just winning, It is the style in how they do it. It reminds me of that 93, 94 Cowboy team that I use to love watching play when I was younger. Troy Aikman going long to number 88 for a touchdown. But it was just the excitement of the game itsel
With the upcoming draft, and the Colts having the #1 overall pick one thing comes to mind...the battle of the QB. The year was 1968, the Colts still in Baltimore and riding high on the shoulders of All-Star, MVP QB Johnny Unitas. This was the man who brought us back in the "Greatest Game Ever Played", our knight in shining armor. Cut to the final preseason game, and Unitas goes down suffering from an injury to his elbow. Not known at the time, Unitas would not ever be the same player again. The
Please understand that we want the best QB with no character issues of which No. #1 should be Peyton until we know if he should ever play again anywhere. I believe that Tony Dungy is still on staff and may have a say so with who the Colts draft, and believe he is a good judge of a person's character.
If I were the Colts GM the first thing I would do is try and lure either Brian Gardener or Bobby Greir from the Texans to my staff, they are the Director and Vice Director of Player Personnel for the Houston Texans. I know that may sound crazy to look to the organization that we have owned in the past to help build our future but the truth is they are stacked at every position. Granted they have drafted at the top of the draft for years but they haven't seemed to miss since David Carr. Their han
I understand that at this time number one is not an option, but this was prepared prior to today's news. I also obviously lack opportunity to interview players and do not know fully salary cap implications or free agency status of everybody with the new CBA. However, this is a thumbnail sketch of how I would begin if I were GM. Feel free to laugh - I know I am only a fan. If I were GM of the Colts, I would…. 1. Pursue Jeff Fisher to coach the team. He has experience in building a successful
JColtfan27 Today, 02:47 PM If I was a GM, I would have left everything the way it was exept my first round pick, I would have traded that pick to other teams that need a quaterback, and are willing to give up some of there free agents. The question still remains. How much is Andrew Luck worth to a team who needs a quaterback slot filled in? I trade my pick, and build around Payton Manning, and Dwight Freeney/ Mathis. Everyone knows that before Payton had his surgery he was the man, and he is bac
First line of business would be to hire a new defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator. Caldwell would keep his job based off his relationship with manning and his willingness to allow Manning g his offensive freedom. Bringing in a new coach could disrupt Manning's freedom on the field and in practices. A defensive coach with a more aggressive attitude would've found. I would look for a special teams coach with special teams onfield experience whom can help kick returnees identify

This upcoming offseason is really important which is why I hope the Colts find the right GM for the job. It is probably the most important offseason since the '97 offseason when Manning was drafted. The Colts now have to make a decision on him and many other veterans who's contracts are expiring. I recently have been thinking through scenarios about what the major decisions could cause. 1. Manning's future: One of the decisions the Colts could make is to keep him do nothing about his contra
If I was the Colts GM.... The Draft: If I was the GM I would NOT draft Andrew Luck. I personally like Morris Clayborn from LSU but he is not a top 5 pick... Or at least not yet. If his position stays the same I would trade the fist pick and aquire a pick to pick him up with a first round pick for next year and the year after that and maybe another lower pick as well. Most people only see the QB problem we have but that is not the only problem, we desperately need some help in the second
Like most that follow the Colts, I have loved the 'family' approach to the team and the fans. Truly gave the impression we were in it and going through it together. Also made us more tolerant of less-than-perfect performances by players and the team as a whole, and all the more rewarding when the Colts won big - we all felt like winners, didn't we? So in the face of all the verbage by the Colts upper echelon supporting the team through this abysmal season, it was sad to see the 'family' go dys
If I was the colts GM I would start by hiring jay gruden as HC Then resign Mathis ,Saturday ,jamaal Anderson, and garcon andrestructure Peyton's contract. Cut brackett vinitari and Clark and Gonzalez Then draft luck trade up to 13 th pick offering next year 1st round pick and a3 round and a 7th rd pick to draft Michael Floyd to get a big body receiver then use our 2nd round pick on cornerback and use our 5 th and 4th on ol or another corner then using our 6th round for a kicker and sign a dyn
Fire the head coach - NO! If Peyton is healthy and they still are doing poorly...maybe, but this year the Colts did as well as many of the teams out there. You cannot go from a Peyton Manning to just anybody and have it work immediately. Draft first round pick QB - Yes - as a back up to Peyton Manning. Peyton will not play forever (although I wish he could). Cut Peyton Manning - are you people deaf, dumb, and blind? Let's find out how he is healed before you kick him to the curb - QBs like
First Step is hiring new Coach. I would target Jeff Fisher, he is a good defensive mind has high character and is humble enough to not try to over control the organization. Thus he would leave the offense alone and would not try to take over some or all of the GM responsibilities. Step 2 is positioning for the draft. I would certainly look to trade down for the #1 pick. I would target a trade with the Browns. Multiple NFL insiders are projecting this pick could land 2 1st round picks and a 2nd r
Start off by firing jim caldwell. He never deserved a HC job in the nfl from the very beginning so right that wrong now. If we are moving in a new direction start there. Hire a defensive minded coach because peyton pretty much handles the offense anyway and DEFENSE WINS !!! If peyton is healthy which I believe he will be then he should be our quarterback until he retires. He has done more for indy that probably almost any quarterback in history. 4 time mvp. Super bowl champion. That's my quarte
If I were Colts gm, I would first evaluate Peyton's progress. If he is going to retire, that makes it easy. Draft a quarterback with the 1st pick and build around him. If Peyton can still play, I think you need to trade the 1st pick for as many picks this year and the next 2 years and surround Peyton with great linemen 1st, He will need all the protection we can give him. If a good QB is available with the picks you have, go for it, otherwise, hope the future picks you have work out for a QB
I would fire Caldwell and Hire Jeff Fisher. Then I would try to hire either Ron Hill or Floyd Reese so that I could fire myself. As to the Draft If peytons status is good to go for at lest 3 to 4 more years. Then I would look at Drafting either rb Trent Richardson out of Alabama , 2nd pick would try to get Lb Audie Cole from North Carolina State, 3rd or 4th pick would be Qb Austin Davis out of Southern Miss. Also we have some key free agents to deal with as well.
The trick is to take a step back and remove emotion from the equation. Review the past ten seasons and what do we see? What worked? What hasn't worked? Obviously the loss of Peyton Manning was huge, which exposed a significant weakness. We can't allow our defense to be based on a single player (no matter which side of the ball he plays on). Building a defense that's designed to "play with a lead" is unwise. Too many times we've seen the defense in the past seasons make tremendous stops on first
The path forward on this hinges on Peyton's health. If he can still throw the ball reasonably well (say 30- 40 yards with good velocity and his usual, near precise accuracy), then that would be acceptable to me to call him "healthy" for the discussion to follow; Assuming he is healthy, I believe he will be a great quarterback for 3-5 more years. At that point, he becomes more of a "sure thing" than any other option available. Therefore, point 1 = I keep him as my starting quarterback. Next step,
It's LeBron being LeBron. I have never been a fan of his for many reasons. He looks like a decent family man and takes great care of his kids + has never been in trouble with the law so I respect him for that - he is also a Great Basketball player, best today. Having said that his ego is outrageous, he left Cleveland in his prime because he couldn't win a Championship. Peyton Manning for example never thought about leaving Indy because he couldn't win for years against the Pats and Steelers in
Yes, that is a fair point some individuals just like to stir the pot & cause controversy & mayhem simply because their life has not turned out as well as they wish it had. Like it's somebody's else's fault that they don't make enough money or have a pretty girlfriend or any girlfriend for that matter.
Look, I'm not trying to minimize any fatality white, black, male, or female & I know that being a police officer is not an easy job. I get that. I just wanna get to an atmo
I am getting ready to get off work so I will have to respond to your Post tomorrow in more detail but all great points. Racism will probably never go away unfortunately as there are just people in this world that are ignorant and violent. I am not sure how anyone can solve some of the violence talking place. It just seems to get worse and worse with groups of people getting shot in night clubs, theaters, etc. for no reason. White cops aren't doing themselves any favors either by shooting unarmed
Thank you CBE for your response to my blog entry. I know how busy peoples daily lives are so I am grateful for feedback & different points of view on this subject matter.
Max Kellerman on ESPN 'First Take' has made the intriguing argument that in America anyway the Natl. Here's my short take on Colin and what is going on: I have no problem with people protesting about something they believe in or serious matters like racism, that is everyone's right to do so. Where I have the problem is dissing the American flag. It doesn't accomplish anything and it really gets many people to dislike you and question why you are doing that. To me it's dissing the Military and the USA when you don't acknowledge the flag. All you are doing is drawing negative attention to yoursel
I hope you're hanging in there brother as well as can be expected given such heart wrenching circumstances. Miss you man. I'm here if you need me. God bless, my friend.
YSGC,
Thank you for being brave enough to share such personal information about the loss of your beloved father. That took a tremendous amount of courage on your part.
Naturally, that void in your life will never be filled of course, but this line made me smile:
"He insisted we bury him in his Colts gear" Awesome!
When are people going to realize that the offensive line talent in last year's draft, outside of La'ell Collins, just wasn't that good? Sure we could've used a couple of picks on some mediocre o-line talent, and people would be right here, with their 20/20 hindsight, saying that they were terrible picks, and that Grigson should be fired.
Instead, we took a WR. People didn't like the pick, as the Colts allegedly were already "stacked at WR." Well, fast forward to this year: Johnson is
