Ok you can call m stupid. But I have always wondered. What exactly is the supplemental draft? Why were they not in original draft. Can someone please explain this to me. Thanks

It's a draft for guys who, for one reason or another, can not continue to play college football. Bad grades, got kicked out of school, are Terrelle Pryor, etc. They are then basically auctioned off. On the day of the draft, teams submit the name of the player they want and the pick they are willing to give up for him. The team who gives up the highest pick gets the player, or, in the case of two picks in the same round, the team with the higher pick in last years draft gets the player. The pick given up for the player is then forfeited in next years draft. Any player who is not drafted is treated like a normal UDFA.

Just to add to Rexal's post - it's for guys who missed the filing deadline for the regular draft. Rexal's post covers it after that.

That's why Pryor was so controversial, he promised to stay at OSU (with the NCAA's concurrence) after they knew about his violations. Then he was suspended for the year instead of 5 games. If he would have known he couldn't go back to OSU he would have declared for the draft.

Not saying any of it was right, just that it was a special circumstance where everyone was in the wrong - Pryor, OSU, Tressel and the NCAA.
