The trade proposals

Joey Bosa (22 M in salary cap savings for the Chargers post June-1st according to over the cap)

For

2023 3rd round, Ryan Kelly and Kwity Paye

Why

Chargers

They will get a top center to replace Linsley and a promising DE who's coming off of a double digit sack season. If you add Bosa, Linsey and cutting Kendricks the Chargers gain roughly 37 million in cap relief (projected to be -45M) which could be more if they extend Kelly.

Joey Bosa has been banged up most of his career so it could be time to cut bait.

Colts

This is a calculated gamble. Bosa base salary of 15M (24) and 17M (25) is very palatable compared to what top WRs are getting. Pairing him with DeForest Buckner, Dayo and Samson Ebukam maintains if not exceeds our current lineup. Bosa has injury issues but with players playing longer than before especially at his position would he be extra motivated to play through dings for another contract.

Connections

SS and Gus Bradley were in San Diego with Bosa

Bosa under Gus

2017 70 tackles/ 12.5 sacks

2018 23 tackles /5.5 sacks *injured

2019 67 tackles/ 11.5 sacks

2020 39 tackles/ 7.5 sacks *injured

Top 100 player 7 years straight

Harbaugh and Kwity Paye at Michigan

Impact

Big Trade Ballard!!!

This is a aggressive move but calculated. A 3rd rounder is expected to contribute but not to the degree of a 1st. Ballard has security in his job and even if this fails he will still get credit for trying.

Bullseye on Bradley!!!

Ballard can really say he gave Bradley every chance to succeed. Bringing in numerous of his former players and drafting players to fit his scheme. A tiger doesn't change his stripes but Bradley may have to add a few wrinkles and manufacturer some pressure. There are a few coordinators out there with ties to SS.

Bosa

He should see more one on ones playing next to Buckner. This line (if healthy) should rip through the AFC South. Could this help with injuries?

Couldn't do a post June 1st trade with a 2023 draft pick(last year), or for a 2024 draft pick this year.

Chargers can still save around $14.4m in cap space in 2024, if they trade him prior to draft or on draft day.

Probably more likely they extend him and reduce his cap hit this year.

What's your Mock Draft after the trade?

I saw that you posted this same thread at Stampede Blue.

The reason I kind of mocked this is the fact that why would we ever want a player, much less pay the player who is never on the field. JOEY Bosa has been a total flop compared to his brother. Forget his impact when he is healthy as his being unhealthy has derailed his talent. Every time you turn around this guy is banged up with something. I realize that most players are banged up with something, but Bosa's somethings always keep him sidelined on gameday.

His production is NOT worth the money or assets needed to acquire him even if he was available. Same as Chase Young. These two players are not worth the money no matter how much we need rush upgrades.

Speaking of trade ideas

Just read an article about San Francisco trading away Brandon Aiyuk.  Those close to Aiyuk suggests that he might be on another team next season.  Very similar to the Colts getting Buckner who was also headed into his fifth-year option.

If you're the Colts, would we consider trading off both WR Alec Pierce and Edge Dayo Odeyingbo in exchange for Aiyuk?  Dayo seems to fit the larger body build that the 49ers seem to already have.  This would free up cap space and assumption 49ers take over both rookie contracts and helps solve their cap space issue this season.  Can you imagine having AR throwing to both Pittman and Aiyuk.

In another news alert…Eagles are now projected to trade up in the 1st Round to take OC JPJ if longtime center Jason Kelce chooses to retire.  Seahawks are also in need of a center and won’t be long so will the Colts.  JPJ only 21 years old.  Got the impression the Eagles have already been in talks about adding him “he has some intangibles Eagles fans are sure to appreciate.”  Story by Beth Mishler-Elmore

Could the Colts trade either trade back with the Eagles and gain additional draft picks on Day 1 or maybe take JPJ and trade Kelly now while he still has value left for say Eagles R3 compensation pick?  Montez Sweat got a R2 trade with the Bears and Kelly is still a Pro-Bowler center imo.

Trade for Aiyuk :headspin:
