Should we try to trade for Robert Woods (WR)

Recommended Posts

My Off-season ideas if we trade for Robert Woods

Free Agency additions

1. Levi Wallace

He's Buffalo no.2 CB but in all likelihood would be our no.1. Levi has filled in for Tredavios White as the Bills top corner back so this role wouldn't be totally new to him. Wallace is only 26 at the moment so pairing him with Rock could give us a solid duo for a few years. (Replaces Xavier Rhodes)

2. Quandre Diggs

Before he was hurt in the last game of the season he was headed to a big pay day. In similar fashion to Fisher I would grab him now that he is hurt and let him fully recover and rehab. He played for Detriot and shined after getting in the Seahawks defensive system. He has incredible range and gives us a dynamic we had with Hooker, a Safety with the ability to play single high. (Replaces Carrie and Sendejo)

Trade!!!

Colts 5th and 7th

For

Rams Robert Woods WR

Logic for the Rams, they are against the cap (they live there). They have OBJ (star power) in the building and need money to keep him. They can free up cash with this trade while acquiring cheap contracts (late draft picks) to fill out their top heavy roster. Plus he is coming off a injury.

Logic for the Colts, we get a dynamic weapon that has at least 85 catches, 1 rushing TD and at least 1 twenty yard run since 2018 (except this year he was injured). He's from USC and already has a bond with MPJ. He has put up numbers with Stafford, Goff, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel. His contract for the next two years is 13,750,000 (remember we paid TY 10 million) and 2025 it's 15.5 million.

Robert Woods (Replaces TY Hilton)

Draft

2nd George Pickens WR 6'3 200lbs

George Pickens looked like a top 5 WR while playing with JT Daniels at Georgia. His body control, strength and willingness to give up his body by going across the middle or diving for balls makes him a great prospect for Carson Wentz and the Colts. He isn't a burner but has enough deep speed to separate.

High-end comp: Allen Robinson

3rd Jake Ferguson TE 6'5 245lbs

Jake Ferguson is a blue collar, throw back TE with some catching ability. He will come in and make the correct blocks and make a few catches. This pick gives JT a old college buddy to run behind in the offense.

High-end comp: Jack Doyle

4th Brian Asamoah LB 6'1 228lbs

I'm looking for a replacement for Bobby O. He's been phenomenal playing next to the Manic but can we really afford to pay 2 LBs? In comes Brian Asamoah. His awareness and hustle will help him fit into our LB corp.

High-end comp: Mack Wilson

5th Rachaad White RB 6'2 210lbs

Rachaad White is a offense weapon. He has all of the same abilities as Hines but he's 6'2. In the same mold of Cordarrelle Patterson I would have him on special teams, flex out wide, in the wild cat and giving JT a breather.

High-end comp: TJ Yeldon

6th Terrel Bernard LB 6'1 222lbs

Terrel Bernard as a non stop motor and coverage ability. I see his early contributions on special teams.

7th Storm Duck CB 6ft 202lbs

Storm Duck is a aggressive CB. Very physical in coverage some of which may leads to PI in the NFL.

So......

Unfortunately we can't solve all of our holes in one Off-season. I believe these moves remove the excuse of lack offensive weapons.

Hopefully the development of Dayo and Paye can help solve the DE position. We have a Off-season and one more year to evaluate Wentz and Fisher but overall this adds horse power to our offense and possible building blocks for the future.

I love Woods. Not sure if this would happen but have been on record that I wish we drafted him. I have always seen him as a Reggie type guy. Go to guy you can count on. That being said, I see him and MPJ being too similar. If it works let’s do it.

Draft wise I like Pickens as well but you are drafting someone who would sit behind the likes of MPJ and Woods. Why draft him early if you are trading for Woods?

I'm thinking with JT emergence as a top RB we will see more 8 in the box next year. So I would want to see us in 3 wide more. All 3 guys can block and we can use motion to determine man or zone etc. Also with our Luck with injuries the more weapons the better.

Looking at playoffs most of the teams have 4 or 5 guys KC (Kelece, Hill, CEH, McKinnon and Hardman) Bengals (Chase, Higgins, Boyd, Mixon and Uzomah) Rams (Kupp, OBJ, Jefferson, Atwell, Akers, Higbee) 49ers (Debo, Debo, Debo lol, Aiyuk, Kittle, Mitchell and Juszczyk)

Parris Campbell and Keke can battle it out for that speed guy but I'm not really counting on Campbell.

Lastly if we build it they will come. I think acquiring talent on rookie contracts can put us in a position to draft a QB next year if Wentz doesn't work out.

I typically hate when people do this because it's usually so unrealistic but this is excellent. Woods is a stud(if he comes back all the way) and is also known for his willingness to block. Diggs would also be a nice pickup, I've said it in other threads that I think our safeties are porous. Plus, I feel like the Colts are becoming famous for taking a flyer on guys returning from injury so they fit the mold!

Godwin, Gallup, Woods would all be coming back from a season ending injury. I’d like to think most GMs would let the market dictate their demand before pulling the trigger prematurely. Of the names mentioned both Godwin and Woods are good blockers too.

    • Kupp ran in the 4.6's. Quick brain and quick feet kick tail. Rewatch a Colts game and focus on Downs. He is incredible getting off the line, attacking a zone, he gets open in a flash. Just how you beat pressure.
    • Obviously you dont want to pass up on great talent, but makes me question if we should go DT seeing we just got grove and buckner on extensions. Also the new big guy too. Wouldn't be mad if we drafted that position but would rather go edge again. Could finally get to the old days of Mathis and Freeney!
    • Irsay himself, with all the Best intentions,  has been our problem. He "mentored" Chuck and Grigson by his own admission during his very troubled personal times. Some bad decisions were made that he should own up to someday.  Post Frank it is all begun anew. The league has progressed, we hit BIG with our HC, we have a QB with huge upside and great prospects to help elevate our competitiveness.  Ballard has earned his flack along the way.   Knock on wood that our Team has good luck. Ballard will look way better if so.
    • I think the Colts are still trying to figure that out. Latu is more than capable off both edges, though, so I expect they'll end up moving him around.
    • I'd say Chiefs are king until proven otherwise. Even as a Bengals fan, I'm pretty weary of Burrow's wrist injury since it's so unprecedented and it just doesn't seem like the team is as good as it was in the early stages of the rivalry. I think Cincy missed their chance to win a ring and it's over similar to Buffalo. I seriously just don't see how any team can really knock Kansas off unless they miss the playoffs entirely.    So far, I'm thinking we barely miss the playoffs again (super early prediction) due to a very muddy AFC.
