Well this is a brutal, but truthful, assessment.

Yes by all means, lets use the resources of a #3 pick and come out of it with a Guard! haha

hahahahahaha

You do realize this means we trade back and get more picks right?

Another fine example of talking out you're rear.

How'd Calvin Johnson and Suh work out for the lions?

Eric berry for the chiefs?

Von Miller, Marcel dereus, aj green, patrick pederson, matt kalil, Ezekiel Elliott?

That's just to name the recent ones.

Mostly you've listed a bunch of guys who haven't won a Super Bowl.  Let's look at one who did, Von Miller in SB 50.

Veteran Peyton Manning had a less than stellar game due to his foot injury but still managed the game for the winners, leading them on three field goal drives.  Regular season phenom, Cam Newton, struggled in his first Super Bowl appearance, due in large part to Von Miller's outstanding game.

How good was his game?:

Denver's 2011 Round 1 pick 2, Von Miller, had six total tackles (five solo), 2½ sacks, and two forced fumbles.

Carolina's 2014 Round 2 pick 60, Kony Ealy, had four total tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and an interception.

The lesson here is unclear.  Was it Miller's great play, Manning's experience, or the ungodly high expectations placed on the 15-1 Panthers and Newton that did in Carolina?

You may have missed that I said, "perennial contender."  Miller has been in one Super Bowl in seven years.  The main reason for that was Manning, until his injury, then the unexpected good play of Osweiler up until his poor last game.  Manning promptly retired and that's been it for the estimable Von Miller.  So my point stands: you have to have a franchise QB to be a perennial contender.

    • Standings after the all star break:   Brewers 56/42 Cardinals 51/47 Pirates 50/48 Reds 47/52 Cubs 47/53   Reds just can’t finish games.
    • Smith had knee surgery which has been well discussed on here.    Flowers is expected to be ready to go by the start of the season.   Lammons and Pittman were banged up during OTAs but seem fine as of now.   Dulin seems to be without a brace and should be ready for camp.   Scott as we all know is out for the year… sad face…   That’s as much as I know as of this week. I’m sure more will be revealed on the 24th.
    • Ok….  I was with you until the end.  A good thoughtful post.   Turns out McCloud played and played  lit and enjoyed a career year.   Graded in the 80’s.     McClouds 2022 season was even better than I remembered.      An overall grade of 80.  A run defense grade of about 67 which is decent.  A pass coverage grade of 85!   And he did all that while playing nearly 1025 snaps.   And that doesn’t include ST, just pass and run.     So that tells me the Colts played either a 4-2-5 or a 4-1-6 the vast majority of the time and weren’t in a base 4-3 very often.   Likely only on 1st downs.   McCloud is really one of Ballard’s best FA signings in his 8 seasons.
    • Imo just because it didn’t work out in 2022 doesn’t mean it won’t work this year.  I’m all for giving your young players a chance to develop.   But if they are not ready they are not ready.  I’m confident the safety room is going to receive a lot of scrutiny during camp.  I think Scott’s injury added to the concern.  So we will just have to wait and see how it works out.  Regardless I think they will do something if they feel the unit can’t get the job done.
    • Im concerned about the mental as well, but if the staff feels he's ready.... We'll see! They are at least ready I think to give him strong evaluation in training camp and preseason.
