New Dream Draft for Colts

Recommended Posts

This draft is a dream draft because of the trades I was able to pull off and still get all the positions of need filled, along with adding some talented players to the Colts. I am by no means saying this could happen, but in my opinion the Colts would easily have one of the better drafts if they could pull something similar to this off...

(Trades - Indy trades 2015 3rd, 2016 2nd for San Fran's 2nd rounder / Indy trades 2nd round pick to NYJ for their two 3rd round picks / Indy trades 2015 6th, 2016 6th for Washington's 6th round pick)

Round 1 Pick 29: Landon Collins, SS, Alabama (A)
Round 2 Pick 14 (S.F.): Carl Davis, DT/DE, Iowa (B)
Round 3 Pick 6 (NYJ): Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska (A)
Round 3 Pick 28 (DEN): Donovan Smith, OT, Penn State (A-)
Round 4 Pick 29: Senquez Golson, CB, Ole Miss (A-)
Round 5 Pick 29: Taiwan Jones, ILB, Michigan State (A-)
Round 6 Pick 6 (WASH): Ladarius Gunter, CB, Miami (Fla.) (C+)
Round 6 Pick 31: Deion Barnes, DE, Penn State (B-)
Round 7 Pick 27: Mario Alford, WR, West Virginia (B-)
Round 7 Pick 38 (COMP): Deontay Greenberry, WR, Houston (C-)

Our secondary looks great with Adams and Collins starting. Golson is a sleeper pick who could play nickel or FS and be an impact player. I just had to trade back up to get a great run stopper who has pass rush ability in Carl Davis to share time with Jones and Langford. Abdullah is one of my favorite backs in the draft, and he would be the perfect compliment to Gore, since Abdullah is the explosive runner of the two while Gore is the dependable physical back. Smith could potentially start at RT in 2016, taking the place of Cherilus. Colts also get good depth with picks of Jones, Gunter, Barnes, Alford, and Greenberry.

Don't know about you guys, but sign me up for a draft similar to this! Yes we give up a 2016 2nd rounder, but look at the players accumulated here.

Looks like you are doing this on First-Pick. How did you trade 2016 picks? You said you traded a 2016 2nd rounder and a 2016 6th rounder. I can only trade 1st rounders from 2016 and 2017, otherwise i have to trade picks for picks from this year.

    • Oh contrare, I’d say it says more about Shane Steichen’s skill set as a coach.
    • Excerpt from an article at NFL.com …     ”… One player the Colts can lean on while Richardson gets his sea legs: running back Jonathan Taylor. After last year's hold-in and injury issues, the star running back looks back to his old self. JT bursts through the line like a Mustang on fire, leaving linebackers in his wake. On Sunday, Taylor totaled 12 carries for 103 yards and +55 rushing yards over expected, his most RYOE in a game since Week 15 of 2021. He also forced five missed tackles across 14 touches.    Shane Steichen's decision to bench the star back during the entire fourth quarter because the Colts were in pass mode belies credibility. Even if Taylor isn't a prolific pass catcher out of the backfield, sitting your best offensive weapon for an entire quarter is folly -- hopefully one Steichen doesn't repeat. If defenses are going to sit back to slow Richardson's deep attack, Taylor should gobble up chunk gains.    At this point, Taylor is the most consistent thing going for Indy. The 25-year-old back owns a game-changing gear and can shoulder a massive load. His presence and production should help settle Richardson down during the roller-coaster dips. Taylor hasn't looked fully healthy in a couple of years. He did this past Sunday. The Colts need to ride that stallion.”     The above referenced article kind of echoes my feelings on the matter.
    • Exactly I am confused with that comment by Shane unless that one drop deserved him to be benched. Again coaches know what's the best.
    • I'm not sure why the team thinks JT can't be effective in the passing game.
    • I know that you use the word only once, and I'm sure that you know what it means. But find one example of me contradicting myself please?
