What makes him a better backup than some of the other guys on the 90 man roster?

He very well may be, but that doesn't really have anything to do with my question or my points.

 

Why is it a bad idea to not have McKinney on the final 53?

 

He is a career back-up, so to expect more out of him at 30 is not realistic.  Then when you add in the fact that he has not played football in two years, has never been very good even when he did play and has a long history of knee and back problems, I don't see why it's a bad idea to have a depth chart with McKinney not on it.
