Tampa Bay trying to trade LeGarrette Blount

Recommended Posts

Watch San Fran get him...

Per PFT -

The Buccaneers signed running back LeGarrette Blount to a one-year contract before the start of free agency, but that doesn’t mean he’ll play in Tampa this season.

In fact, the Bucs are trying to trade Blount, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

That’s no surprise. Blount was brought in by the previous regime in Tampa and never seemed like a good fit with head coach Greg Schiano. And in 2012 Blount was largely phased out of the offense in favor of rookie Doug Martin: Blount carried just 41 times for 151 yards, while Martin got the bulk of the carries and finished the season with 319 carries for 1,454 yards.

Blount is only 26 years old and only three years removed from a rookie season in which he carried 201 times for 1,007 yards, so it wouldn’t be surprising if some other team figures he’s worth a draft pick in a trade. Blount could provide value to some other team, even if the Bucs are ready to move on.

He didn't really see the field last year. He had 41 carries the entire season. Tampa has transitioned to Doug Martin.

bad work ethic, awful in pass protection, can't catch, fumbles, and doesn't play big. Caught lightning in a bottle his rookie year and has since dropped off completely.

There was a reason he was undrafted.

Yeah, we're not really talking about the draft.

Odds are Schiano doesn't want him because he does not fit Schiano's system. Blount isn't your typical pass catching back. They still have bruisers in the NFL. And he's one of them. Like a Jerome Bettis (a fumbling machine who nobody would label as a pass catching RB). Regardless, Earnest Byner said he has no issues with Blount in the passing game. And Schiano himself said his hands are fine and that he can catch the football. And Byner also said he does EVERYTHING asked of him. Whatever was going on under Raheem Morris apparently ended under Schiano.

Anyway, Blount breaks tackles and arm tackles are a non-starter against him. He's got quick feet and is quite agile for a big guy. And he's good in space and the perimeter. IMO He's a good fit for San Francisco. Especially considering Jim Harbaugh is all too familiar with Blount having played at Oregon.

We'll see what happens.

The reason he went undrafted was mostly due to getting kicked off the Oregon team for most of his senior season.   It takes a lot to get kicked off the team at Oregon.

The kid has serious talent.    He's also a serious head case....

Probably not a good fit for Indy....

It doesn't take that much, you just have to knock someone out on national tv in the new HC's first game lol.

A good rule of thumb is that if you're going to talk ^&%$, put your hands up.

And to say it's hard to get kicked off the Ducks is silly. That was true under Belloti but when Chip came on he ran a tight ship. Blount was suspended his senior season for the punch (though he worked his way back onto the team for the last two games), Kiko Alonso was suspended a year for a DUI which is an unheard of punishment, Masoli was booted for stealing a frat kid's laptop and Cliff Harris essentially got a year for a speeding ticket. Chip was one of the strictest coaches I've ever seen for off the field issues.

    • Yeah it’s the going three and out that’s the issue.  That has nothing to do with the defense.  That’s all on the offense.  If the offense could sustain a drive you’d also rest the defense so they aren’t spent by the 4th quarter as they clearly were in the Texans game too.

    • A primary reason Why he needed to be more active in free agency. He has done well throughout his drafts to add contributing NFL roster caliber players, however, there is a mounting lack of true difference makers  on the defensive roster. His stubbornness with overvaluing his own draft picks is getting very old- especially on defense -to your point. I also realize some of these players are being held back by Bradley's simple and tired defense.
