Well, it's not uncommon in Europe, in sports or elsewhere, for a contract to be made up like that. But then again every cent of a contract over here, is guaranteed, with a chance of bonus money for certain set targets.

So if the total sum without bonuses is 10 million, the player will get 10 million for certain.

But then again, in Europe teams can't just cut players, trade them against their will or set any restrictions on an athlete once his contract runs out.
