Dearest Father,

I write to you today to share things that I can not pen to Mother. Man things. My heart is overwhelmed to get back to the men. My battalion has grown beyond my wildest desires. The generals have sent me reinforcements.  Lieutenant Nelson has blossomed into a man that will hold the front line in the face of our treacherous enemies. Lieutenant Mack and Private Hines are eager to command a swift and ferocious cavalry. Gunnery Sergeant Hilton has a much improved group of promising young men. I pray to our Lord every night that my pride and confidence in my men is not sinful. I fear that I, and my men, will not just prevail, but become a butcher of thy enemy.  Pray for my soul father.
