Broncos coach John Fox said it was time for his players to put on the pads this week and start popping each other.

When a defense isn't stopping the run, it's time to get physical.

"One thing Coach Fox does is we're going at it," said Jack Del Rio, the Broncos' defensive coordinator. "(Wednesday) was a pretty physical practice — back to the fundamentals of how we do things and I think that's refreshing. That's good for our guys."

Through their first 11 games with Kevin Vickerson and Derek Wolfe starting on the defensive line, Denver ranked among the NFL's top five defenses against the run, allowing an average of 94.8 yards rushing per game.

++++ But in the three games since Vickerson and Wolfe went down with physical setbacks, the Denver defense has been a run-stopping sieve, allowing 144 yards rushing per game. ++++

Only the Chicago Bears have allowed more yards rushing per game (152.4) over the full season
