No. I'm fairly certain CBA rules prevent teams from circumventing paying a player just because of injury reasons.  I think the process is the injured player must be placed on Reserved Injured status and paid via the contract accordingly.  If the Colts then want to release him, an injury settlement must be agreed upon between the parties and then the player can be placed on the Waived Injured list.
