What if we traded Bethea and picked up a safety in the draft(Elam anyone?) and then Ed Reed in FA to mentor the one we draft? I love Bethea and really think he just had a down year but with Reed leaving texans without a deal it's still a possibility. 

 

I'd prefer to just keep Bethea and Landry myself but wouldn't be too discouraged by the move.

They didn't really say that. They said they wanted Landry and got him. They didn't really say they wanted him or didn't want reed. He said they looked at everyone. Made me go hmmmmm.

Dropping or trading Bethea for Reed doesn't make much sense either though. Bethea has several years of football in him , Reed has 1-3 years left in him.

I think we are done in free agency even though the pick he got weren't the ones i wanted i think we should have some cap space for next year free agents that are free.

My guess is we sign one more good player. I think the temptation will be too much and they pull the tfrigger one more time. As far as Reed , IMO , it would mean cutting Bethea.

We've got $13-14 million left. $5-6 million'll go towards the draft & UFAs. The rest'll go towards the practice squad and what Polian & Parcells called fudge money that can be used for unforseen costs during the season.
