You speak as if we don't understand how life without Kirk will be. And, you had no clue how it was with Kirk either, which you don't seem to understand even after pointing out (now for 3rd time). You also speak as if Kirk has Vikings at the top of the division, lol

The best part of life without Kirk is it will be a step towards getting a permanent franchise QB, because (a) Kirk is not that (b) no use in waiting for a 36-year old to become franchise QB. We'd rather have Darnold and pick closer to top 10 or better rather than paying 40+ million for a finish in draft range of 14 - 25.

When you say Vikings had more patience because he was good, you overlook the amount of money he was milking while being slightly above average. Whatever worth Kirk was being better than Wentz, he got paid very well for that too, so that only adds to more frustration about finding a franchise QB.

If you pay 40+ million for a QB for average results year after year for 6 years, you'd feel the frustration but at this point you're not able to look from others' perspective so no point in discussing further.

That is not a popular opinion here. Some love Kirk as if he did so much for us. Keenum won 13 regular season games for the Vikings in 2017 with a tiny fraction of what Kirk was paid.

Anyway, let's keep this to draft related stuff.

Who are your sleepers in this draft? Who do you think will be the QB of the future for the Vikes? I'm really nervous about this draft. 😂

DJ’s mock had him as the first defensive player off the board. Murphy at 9 would do wonder for us. Maybe Odunze falls.

I thought Odunze may drop to the Giants. My friend who is a Giants season-ticket holder said he believes the Giants are drafting WR in the first round. I think it may be Odunze if not one of the other two (Nabers and Harrison).

Here’s my thought on the players and possibilities with the 15th pick:

If the following players are available, we stick and pick at 15 or maybe trade 3-5 spots up:

    -Brock Bowers

    -Quinyon Mitchell

    -Dallas Turner

If the above are gone, we trade down and take one of the following:

    -Brian Thomas, Jr.

    -Cooper DeJean

    -Xavier Worthy

    -Jared Verse/Laitu Latu

Striking distance is 3-5 picks IMO and the compensation has to be future draft capital I would think. I wonder if it is really Quinyon, who is it that they feel they need to get ahead of?

Who is your favorite player that you would like the Colts to draft?

Look I am who I am. If you don’t like the way I express myself you could just skip over the post. I have never been great at expressing thoughts but that doesn’t give you the right to jump on me like a pack of wolves when I post something you don’t like. Sorry I am not good enough for you or express myself as well as you think everyone should.  I used to find this place enjoyable because I could talk football with everyone. I don’t have people in my life who like football. So being able to talk football is enjoyable to me. But it’s not enjoyable when people are rude and inconsiderate and make others feel silly.

I was wondering what happened to you. I think you did a good job defending yourself. You should not let others take away your love of football or of this site.

Hopefully I will see some of your posts on the draft.

  5. Excellent article on the Athletic

    https://theathletic.com/5420476/2024/04/22/nfl-draft-nil-money-impact?source=user-shared-article

NIL money has changed the draft. This year a much smaller number of underclassmen declared for the draft. Many players who could have made the draft stronger stayed in school because they get paid in college. Also, many believe that because many underclassmen stayed in school, only about 150 to 170 are draftable (have the talent to be drafted). Some getting drafted this year would have been undrafted in earlier years.

It should be a fun draft anyway.

Cardinals got a swapped 3rd round draft pick, at best.

I don't know why people are talking about the swap of #8 and #11, how would the punishment be so harsh for Falcons, compared to the precedence from past year?

I think it has to do with romanticizing draft pick exchange during people's mock drafts during this time of the year - Draft Season.

If there's any punishment for Falcons at all, it will probably be lighter, same as last year or an early day 3 draft pick.. people expecting top 50 or  top 15 draft pick for Vikings as punishment of Falcons will probably be disappointed.

The writer of an article in The Falcoholic believes the punishment will come next year, not this year. He thinks it is too late to render punishment that will affect this year's draft. However, he thought the punishment would be stiff.

They are gonna pay someone a rookie 1st round contract.   I don't think trading for Zach Wilson will have an effect on their draft strategy

Everyone seems to believe that Denver will draft Nix. Is he that good?

I watched a podcast on the Athletic with Dane Bugler, Nate Tice and another person interviewing them. Bugler and Tice did not seem to like Nix or Penix but liked Nix better. Tice liked Spencer Rattler better than Nix or Penix. Nate Tice said Penix should be picked in Round 3 or Day 3 (I forgot).

  8. @w87r

I know you love the guy but these are so Cousins-like:

    Quote

The tampering was clear and obvious. At his introductory press conference, Cousins himself admitted to multiple circumstances that violated the rules that apply during the negotiating window that precedes the official start of free agency. He said he spoke with the team’s head athletic trainer during the negotiating window. He apparently spoke with director of player personnel Ryan Pace before the official launch of the league year.

Cousins also was directly involved in recruiting former Bears receiver Darnell Mooney to Atlanta, an Inception-style instance of tampering within tampering. And Cousins admitted that Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts had been actively recruiting Cousins for multiple weeks, conduct which becomes a violation if the recruiting happens with the knowledge or at the direction of the team.

Yeah, but the tampering here has just so much blatant acts and even admitted acts.

I think the punishment will be substantial here.

Cardinals got to swap 3rds for coach tampering, where I don't think there was quite as much evidence as here?

Really think the Vikings might get the 8th pick here and the Falcons end up with the 11th.

    Would be huge for Minnesota.

#8 and #23 is almost enough for #3 on the chart. And only dropping to #8 is a big win for whoever is trading down from 3rd to 5th picks.

Really not much else out there Minnesota doesn't have a pick till the 4th round after #23.

So unless they make Atlanta give them a 2nd or 3rd in a swap for a 4th?

    IDK?

While I thought there may be punishment for the Falcons, I did not think the Vikings would benefit in any way. In the past, teams have forfeited picks, no? I remember the Patriots forfeiting a pick but I cannot recall why. This was a few years ago.

If we do swap with the Falcons, it does not hurt the Falcons much but it does help the Vikings. I would rather stay at 8 and see what is there. I don't like mortgaging the future for a player.

When I see this and think about how Ballard talked about his coaches needing to have a plan for how they can utilize the players, Bowers is the guy that pops into my head. Plus Bowers doesn’t stop you from still adding to the receiver room later in the draft.

I have the Colts pick down to 5-6 players and Bowers is still one of them

    1. Quinyon Mitchell, CB

    2. Brian Thomas Jr., WR

    3. Brock Bowers, TE

    4. Jared Verse, Edge

    5. Cooper DeJean, CB

    6. Xavier Worthy, WR

Zach Hicks brought up on Twitter that last season was the first that Steichen didn’t have a high level TE. I know there’s optimism for Woods, but Bowers is a matchup nightmare who they can move all over the place.

This site will be so happy to get Bowers.

I've been picking for Colts in Vikings forum Mock Draft that started last night, and we had 2 rounds completed.

I picked TE Brock Bowers in round 1 and S Kamren Kinchens in round 2, didn't get to trade up or down, so I'm probably gonna let the board fall and pick the best player available.

5 QBs were taken in 1st round, there was a run on OTs and top 3 WRs, and 2 Edge rushers. 0 CBs and 0 DTs were taken when I was on clock, so all of them were available. Edge Latu was also available among others. I went with Bowers as that'd be rare opportunity to get an  explosive, potential elite weapon on offense.

By Colts pick in round 2, there was a huge run on CBs, OTs and OG/Cs, and S Nubin was also taken. All of the other top WRs were also taken, and I was eyeing on Ladd McConkey who just went a pick prior to Colts, otherwise I'd have taken him, even if that meant going offensive playmakers back to back.

I didn't like many of the other receivers or DL players available, as I had lower grade for them for #46, Ricky Pearsall and Mike Sainristil were there , other players available were TJ Tampa, two other top LBs who I considered, DT T'Vondre Sweat was also available... Among Safeties, only Nubin had been taken already at that point, so all other Safeties were there.

I considered between Kinchens and Bullard, both of whom I liked, but eventually thought Kinchens' versatility in playing different positions would suit Colts defense better.

    Rounds 3 and 4 tonight...

Let me know what you think I could've done or you'd have done, that'd help me target in upcoming rounds.

You should share the link so that folks can see how people are selecting.

I picked for the Giants and Titans. I had my first round picks lined up -- Nabers for the Giants and Alt for the Titans. Both were taken earlier.

    My picks:

    Giants:

    Jayden Daniels in 1st

    Roman Wilson in 2nd

Calen Bullock, S, in 3rd to replace Xavier McKinney (I wanted Blake Fisher to address OL, but he was drafted a pick or two ahead)

Caelen Carson, CB, Wake Forest in 4th

    Titans:

Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn St in 1st

Troy Franklin, WR, Oregon in 2nd

Austin Booker, EDGE, Kansas in 3rd (moved up from pick 106 to 92 to make that pick)

  11. I wrote a comment earlier but I must not have pressed "submit". :(

I believe they all would have played but they would have to adjust how they played.

For me, Romo was the worst. I thought he should have been banned for some of what he did. I think he ended the career of a teammate.

Jack Tatum and some of the others played before I started watching football. From what I read, he fit the description of a dirty player.

I always disliked Rodney Harrison for his play. He seemed to always make extra hard hits. Burfict played like he had CTE -- he seemed out of control. He missed a lot of time because of his dirty plays. I would not be surprised to learn that he has CTE.

Roy Williams does not come to mind at all. I have to search a picture. I keep envisioning the WR Roy Williams.

I don't recall Bob Sanders or Jared Allen as dirty players.

If the Vikings get that 4th pick, a lot of Vikings will be extremely happy @NFLfanwho would you take at 4?

I don't want to move up if we have to give up another first round pick in 2025. If we move up and give up only #23 and #11 this year, then I would like that. I like Daniels. I like Nabers and Odunze too but we don't need a WR.
