Personality wise? Not really. Both are a little off the beaten path. Rodgers is on a different level, though, IMO.

    Okay.

Drake Maye is at the draft. He looks like the prototypical QB.

He has some good traits, but nothing that jumps off the screen when watching him. Good enough arm, good enough athleticism, good enough size... And surface level viewing, the immediate reaction is this is a game manager on a great team, not being asking to do any big boy QBing. You have to really dig in to see examples of him making big throws from the pocket in critical situations, etc. Those examples definitely exist, but it's easy to miss them. So can he become a franchise level QB who can elevate his teammates, or is he more of a system guy who needs to be on a really good team to succeed?

I think he has a lot of potential. He just doesn't seem like the prototypical first round QB prospect that the team wants to build around.

And then like stitches said, the other three guys at the top are two Heisman winners, and a consensus top five prospect for the last two years. So the general response to McCarthy has been muted. I don't think there's anyone who would consider him the best prospect in this year's draft, so it's not surprising that no one chose him in this poll. But there are people whose opinions I respect who have him as #3 ahead of Maye, including JT O'Sullivan, who I think is the best Youtube evaluator.

Yes, JT likes McCarthy more than Maye. I think I will be happy with any of the top four. After that, there is a huge dropoff and they are older. Penix is not only older but has a history of injuries. I would be very disappointed drafting Nix or Penix with #11, even with #23.

like Daniels, but don't think he could play same style of QB in the NFL, he'll need to develop more of a passer which I'm not sure will happen.

They said the same thing about Lamar Jackson. Actually many thought he would not make it in the NFL...running QB, etc

My sleepers: (meaning, the kind of players coaches would like to have, more than what consensus big board gives credit to them. Some of them might need couple of years to attain their high potential, if drafted into suitable coaching environment, so a lot depends on that. Some of them have injury concerns too).

Most of them are high IQ players or high-effort, high-motor players - two traits I look for from the Drafted players, list is long but I like these guys.. gonna be interesting to see where they land and how it works out for them in long run.

    Payton Wilson, LB, NC State

    Caelen Carson, CB, Wake Forest

    Kiran Amegadjie, OT, Yale

    Maason Smith, IDL, LSU

    Christian Mahogany, OG, Boston College

    Max Melton, CB, Rutgers

    Zak Zinter, OG, Michigan

    Bucky Irving, RB, Oregon

    Khyree Jackson, CB Oregon

Dylan McMahon, C, NC State (good fit for Browns)

    Tykee Smith, SAF, Georgia

    Ainias Smith, WR, Texas A&M

    Cam Hart, CB, Notre Dame

    Michael Barrett, LB Michigan

    Malachi Corley, WR, Western Kentucky

    Beaux Limmer, IOL, Arkansas

    Kamren Kinchens, S, Miami

    McKinnley Jackson, IDL, Texas A&M

    Kalen King, CB, Penn State

    Justin Eboigbe, IDL, Alabama

    Jacob Cowing, WR, Arizona

    Beau Brade, SAF, Maryland

    Isaac Guerendo, RB, Louisville

Jalyx Hunt, EDGE, Houston Christian (I'm hoping for day 3 Vikings pickup, as Flores could work wonders with him)

    Jaheim Bell, TE, Florida State

    Brennan Jackson, EDGE, Washington State

    Delmar Glaze, OT, Maryland

    Myles Cole, EDGE, Texas Tech

    Kristian Boyd, DT, Northern Iowa

    Javontae Jean-Baptiste, DL, Notre Dame

    Jordan Magee, LB, Temple

    Myles Harden, CB, South Dakota

Jalen Green, EDGE, James Madison (UDFA Target prospect)

Trey Taylor, S, Air Force (UDFA prospect)

    Eyabi Okie-Anoma, EDGE, Charlotte

    Qwan'tez Stiggers, CB, Toronto

    Sundiata Anderson, EDGE, Grambling State

Daequan Hardy, CB, Penn State (Special Teams, Returner)

    Emani Bailey, RB, TCU

As for Vikings, I don't wanna rush to draft QB if the team isn't confident in the guys they could move up in draft range, and I'd like to just draft impact players that build the roster at this point.

Build the team, draft a franchise QB at right time, don't rush and ruin years trying to make someone work out in the NFL.

Thanks. That is a lot of sleepers.

Looking at those names, Jordan Magee, Sundiata Anderson, and Trey Taylor are from smaller schools.

I have my eye on Myles Cole and Myles Harden.

    We need a RB.

So... you would be good with any of them... but who do you REALLY want?

I really don't know. Early on I wanted Maye, but then I wanted Daniels. There is a lot I like about McCarthy. They all have positives and negatives. Williams seems a bit conceited, like Levis last year. I think I like Daniels best then McCarthy. McCarthy is the youngest and he seems very calm and mature. He seems intelligent.

My biggest fear is drafting someone that becomes the second Christian Ponder.

Listening to Mike Greenberg this morning.  All the rumors of quarterbacks, when they'll be taken, which teams would trade up to get them....

I'm just reminded of how overwhelmingly glad I am that the COLTS are not being mentioned at all in the QB draft follies this year!

What did Greeny say about the Vikes and our quest for a QB this year?

  7. 58 minutes ago, w87r said:

    Yeah it's not happening.

Even if a deal was worked out for it to happen after June 1st, the Chargers would save $6m this year, but have like a $95m dead cap hit next season.

If traded today on the draft, the Chargers would have a:

    2024 Dead Cap: $108,502,700

    2024 Savings: $-89,157,025

I know. Two to so months ago, Vikings fans discussed the impact of trading Herbert; we all agreed that logistically it would not work for the Chargers.

    I would have loved it.

Absolutely! Have you heard the insane rumor that the Chargers might draft JJ and deal Herbert to the Vikings??

No, but I would love that! Is that true? Where did you hear that? I don't think that will happen. I heard that trading Herbert would result in a huge dead cap hit for the Chargers, that would make it nearly impossible to keep or sign other players.

Happy Draft Day to the folks who are in Indiana! (And east coast) lol. If this actually happens today I don’t know what I would do. Pipe dream or not, I’m READY for this draft to start!

I'm not in Indiana, but I am so ready for the draft. I should have taken the day off.

I would be surprised to see that trade. The pats have said they have not received serious offers to trade back. But that would be great to see Marvin Harrison's son as a Colt.

    Let's be honest here.

It was the Ballard Mafia that went after her

Ballard Mafia? I think I may be among those. 😂 (I'm a fan of Ballard's.)

Seriously, there is no reason for anyone to go after any member. There is no reason to ridicule or bait people. Some here do that.

All sides have to keep in mind that when people are silenced, you lose what makes this forum great. Exchanging different ideas makes the forum more fun. Imagine if everyone wrote the same opinions and thoughts. It would be boring.

All the best on the draft! (If Ballard drafts Bowers, will you join Ballard Mafia? :) )

  11. I did not vote, as I really don't have a favorite. I guess whoever the Vikings draft will be my favorite, especially if we do not trade up for him.

The Vikings like Maye. I would be okay with him or Daniels or McCarthy.

Experts love McCarthy. Many Vikings fans do too. Why don't Colts fan think highly of McCarthy?

You speak as if we don't understand how life without Kirk will be. And, you had no clue how it was with Kirk either, which you don't seem to understand even after pointing out (now for 3rd time). You also speak as if Kirk has Vikings at the top of the division, lol

The best part of life without Kirk is it will be a step towards getting a permanent franchise QB, because (a) Kirk is not that (b) no use in waiting for a 36-year old to become franchise QB. We'd rather have Darnold and pick closer to top 10 or better rather than paying 40+ million for a finish in draft range of 14 - 25.

When you say Vikings had more patience because he was good, you overlook the amount of money he was milking while being slightly above average. Whatever worth Kirk was being better than Wentz, he got paid very well for that too, so that only adds to more frustration about finding a franchise QB.

If you pay 40+ million for a QB for average results year after year for 6 years, you'd feel the frustration but at this point you're not able to look from others' perspective so no point in discussing further.

That is not a popular opinion here. Some love Kirk as if he did so much for us. Keenum won 13 regular season games for the Vikings in 2017 with a tiny fraction of what Kirk was paid.

Anyway, let's keep this to draft related stuff.

Who are your sleepers in this draft? Who do you think will be the QB of the future for the Vikes? I'm really nervous about this draft. 😂

DJ’s mock had him as the first defensive player off the board. Murphy at 9 would do wonder for us. Maybe Odunze falls.

I thought Odunze may drop to the Giants. My friend who is a Giants season-ticket holder said he believes the Giants are drafting WR in the first round. I think it may be Odunze if not one of the other two (Nabers and Harrison).

Here’s my thought on the players and possibilities with the 15th pick:

If the following players are available, we stick and pick at 15 or maybe trade 3-5 spots up:

    -Brock Bowers

    -Quinyon Mitchell

    -Dallas Turner

If the above are gone, we trade down and take one of the following:

    -Brian Thomas, Jr.

    -Cooper DeJean

    -Xavier Worthy

    -Jared Verse/Laitu Latu

Striking distance is 3-5 picks IMO and the compensation has to be future draft capital I would think. I wonder if it is really Quinyon, who is it that they feel they need to get ahead of?

Who is your favorite player that you would like the Colts to draft?

Look I am who I am. If you don’t like the way I express myself you could just skip over the post. I have never been great at expressing thoughts but that doesn’t give you the right to jump on me like a pack of wolves when I post something you don’t like. Sorry I am not good enough for you or express myself as well as you think everyone should.  I used to find this place enjoyable because I could talk football with everyone. I don’t have people in my life who like football. So being able to talk football is enjoyable to me. But it’s not enjoyable when people are rude and inconsiderate and make others feel silly.

I was wondering what happened to you. I think you did a good job defending yourself. You should not let others take away your love of football or of this site.

Hopefully I will see some of your posts on the draft.

  16. Excellent article on the Athletic

    https://theathletic.com/5420476/2024/04/22/nfl-draft-nil-money-impact?source=user-shared-article

NIL money has changed the draft. This year a much smaller number of underclassmen declared for the draft. Many players who could have made the draft stronger stayed in school because they get paid in college. Also, many believe that because many underclassmen stayed in school, only about 150 to 170 are draftable (have the talent to be drafted). Some getting drafted this year would have been undrafted in earlier years.

It should be a fun draft anyway.

Cardinals got a swapped 3rd round draft pick, at best.

I don't know why people are talking about the swap of #8 and #11, how would the punishment be so harsh for Falcons, compared to the precedence from past year?

I think it has to do with romanticizing draft pick exchange during people's mock drafts during this time of the year - Draft Season.

If there's any punishment for Falcons at all, it will probably be lighter, same as last year or an early day 3 draft pick.. people expecting top 50 or  top 15 draft pick for Vikings as punishment of Falcons will probably be disappointed.

The writer of an article in The Falcoholic believes the punishment will come next year, not this year. He thinks it is too late to render punishment that will affect this year's draft. However, he thought the punishment would be stiff.

They are gonna pay someone a rookie 1st round contract.   I don't think trading for Zach Wilson will have an effect on their draft strategy

Everyone seems to believe that Denver will draft Nix. Is he that good?

I watched a podcast on the Athletic with Dane Bugler, Nate Tice and another person interviewing them. Bugler and Tice did not seem to like Nix or Penix but liked Nix better. Tice liked Spencer Rattler better than Nix or Penix. Nate Tice said Penix should be picked in Round 3 or Day 3 (I forgot).
