Growing up in Chicago during his playing years he was the king of the city. When he played at the University of Illinois he was seriously feared by his fellow players. I was friends with a guy that was the brother of his roommate and trust me he scared a whole bunch of players. RIP is traditional for people that have passed but it is not for #51 because rest was for punks. Millions will miss him.

He was a ball hawk. Although Butkus is mostly remembered for his bone-crunching tackles, he also had a nose for the ball, which is one of the many things that made him great. Over the course of his career, not only did he pick off 22 passes, but he also recovered 27 fumbles, giving him a total of 49 turnovers in just nine seasons.
Butkus never played in a postseason game. One of the most surprising things that people learn about Butkus is that he never got to play in a postseason game. The Bears only finished with a winning record twice in his nine seasons.
