Salary Cap Sucks For Fans

Hey rockywoj, one of the things that changed in the past two years, that evidently was not expected by the Colts, is that the new CBA cut the projected salary cap by about $20 million. The cap was $128 million in 2009. Uncapped in 2010. Then it went down to $120 million in 2011. Might go down in 2012. Projections four years ago were that the cap would be near $140 million in 2012. So the contracts that were signed three or four years ago were signed in anticipation of having more cap space than we have now. The cap is expected to take some significant leaps up starting in 2013 (when the new TV contracts kick in), so a lot of the teams that are able to spend now will be able to continue paying players that still deserve the salaries. But the CBA upheaval affected a lot of teams. And it would have been worse if the owners had gotten their way in the labor negotiations. I'm kind of surprised to see your stance on this topic, actually, considering how pro-owner you were during the labor debate.

By the way, not trying to stir up old debates. Just tying a few things together.
