On to the Titans

Lots of threads to vent your frustrations about the Rams game.  So if you want to do that use one of those please.  Even with the loss the Colts fall to 6-3 but if the Jags hang on vs. the Titans they will still hold a two game lead over the second place Titans.  Thursday will be the first of two games in three weeks with the Titans.  If the Colts can win those two games even with the blow out loss today they will be AFC South Champions even if it's not official yet.  By the same token if they don't get those wins the Titans will be in the drivers seat for the AFC South season.  So the Colts season in a lot of ways can be impacted by the two up coming games with the Titans.

The titans also lost today as I predicted. I don't know what they can do about the o line but just move on.

At this point I think you have to look at how the Texans and Rams attacked us the past two weeks.  They sent EVERYONE.  So how do you counter that?  Well if a team is sending everyone no o-line can pick up everyone especially a sub par one like the Colts.  So you have to figure out how do you attack an over aggressive defense? You run plays like screens, misdirection plays, and draws.  You do things like that where they can't just pin their ears back and come.

I also think you have to use the pass to set up the run rather than the run to set up the pass.  I also think you have to tell Luck it has to be snap and pass to his first and hot read.  He can't hold the ball like he's been doing.  I also think Luck needs to work on getting his passes down.  He's been wild high the last couple of weeks.  Guys can't make plays for you if you don't give them a chance.  No question not having Reggie is still hurting them and now we will have see if Whalen is okay after that shot today.  He was one of the few guys Luck seemed comfortable with.  So that's not going to help.  Look we have lost a LOT of skill players on offense, Ballard, Bradshaw, Wayne, and Allen.  You can only take some many hits in those areas before it has a major impact on that area.  I don't know if the Colts have the skill players they need to make a major run this year due to injury and that's before we even talk about the o-line.  With that said they can and should win this division and then deal with the playoffs when you are there.

On defense teams watched that Broncos game where it was highlighted that the Colts don't come out of their man defense.  The Texans and Rams have attacked that the past couple of weeks.  So now the Colts have to adjust.  Mix in some zone match ups to take away deep passes or teams are going to keep attacking you with it.  If the Colts can fix that I think our defense will be fine.  When teams have had to drive on us without the homerun ball in the past couple of weeks the defense has been good.

On Special Teams there has to be a coaching adjustment in terms of returns.  It's one thing if a returner doesn't get to the 20 on a return and you don't like that if he brings it out it's a whole other if he can't even make it to the ten.  I think you have to tell Reed at this point if it's more than three yards in you don't care what he thinks he sees he has to take a knee because you can't keep giving up 10 to 15 yards in field position on returns.  The offense with all the skill players out just can't over come that.  Coverage I'll just chalk up to Austin being a pretty good player who made a heck of a play with some nice blocks.  Colts just need to clean that up and they will be okay.

@jwyattsports: Indications are #Titans QB Jake Locker suffered a season-ending foot injury in today's game vs the Jaguars

@jwyattsports: Per sources, the #Titans believe Locker suffered a Lisfranc injury in right foot. More tests being done. Surgery is a possibility

Every team in the division (not that the Titans wanted or could have prevented their QB getting hurt) is going here Colts we don't want to win the South this year you take it...Colts need to take it...

    • I'm not saying he is about to be a sack machine but you can see some of his potential as a one gap penetrator with that frame.
    • Davis came from Alabama. My point of interest as the writer highlighted is he is moving from being a 2 gapper into now only being responsible for a single gap with a lot more penetration from him versus read and react. With his length and power at 6ft 7 300 plus the expectation for him in our scheme is he will be more disruptive. A much more reliable option for us if Grover goes down in addition to whatever else maybe we can do with him.
    • Thank you. You guys are too kind, but I truly appreciate the support.    Perhaps I am being too hard on myself… But my point still stands that anyone who makes it to the NFL, whether practice squad or starter, has achieved something prestigious that only a rare few ever achieve.    Over a million high schoolers play. Of those only 7.8 percent move on to play in college.    Over 80,000 people play in college. Only 0.4 percent make it to opening day in the NFL.    Only 2,016 players make it to NFL rosters.
    • Davis had a very good rookie season after being drafted in the 2nd round out of Ohio State (I believe).   Graded in the 70’s against both the run and pass.      But his last three years have been disappointing, as he’s graded in the mid-50’s.   The reason I’m so interested in this signing, is (A) I’m sure it was heavily influenced by the new DL coach, Partridge.   And (B) we’re paying him 2/14.  I don’t recall that kind of money ever being given to a basic backup before.   Don’t think Davis is here to push Stewart, the Colts just signed him to 3/39.  That tells me the Colts defensive staff sees him differently.   I don’t know what the plan the staff has come up with for Davis, but I’m looking forward to watching it play out.
