He'll always be a great Colt.  That said, he is on the downward side of his career now. So this move wouldn't burn me nearly as much as it would have a few years ago.

I think giving him a year deal would be safe...we could save him up until the playoffs and unleash him when he is fresh.

Freeney elevated Mathis' pass rush moves and Mathis learnt a lot from Freeney early on in his career. Of course, the base talent needs to be there to be taken to an elite pass rusher. I think that is what BB wants to accomplish with Freeney as a 1 yr. stop gap - help another Syracuse guy in Chandler Jones who has the tools and talent but needs to learn from the best in terms of pass rush moves.
 

That will definitely be accomplished if Freeney goes there, IMO.
