Nfl First Round Mock Draft (4/5/12)

Recommended Posts

First Round:

1. Indianapolis Colts - Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

- No explanation.

2. Washington Redskins (From Rams) - Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

- Washington gets there quarterback they've been dreaming.

3. Minnesota Vikings - Matt Kalil, OT, USC

- Ponder has more room to throw with an instant upgrade at left tackle.

4. Cleveland Browns - Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

- With Peyton Hillis gone, the Browns need a running back badly.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

- Talib is likely heading to jail so the Bucs need someone to replace him.

6. St. Louis Rams (From Redskins) - Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

- Rams need to protect Sam Bradford as much as they can or else he will have a David Carr career. Reiff is the second best tackle and probably the best tackle on the Rams roster.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars - Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

- Jaguars are lucky to have Blackmon fall to them. Gabbert will be a happy camper because he will have a number one receiver to throw it too.

8. Miami Dolphins - Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

- Dolphins need a quarterback and the Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was Tannehill's head coach so it makes sense for both sides.

9. Carolina Panthers - Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State

- The Panthers could use a play maker on the defensive line and I believe Cox defensive tackle in the draft.

10. Buffalo Bills - Johnathan Martin, OT, Stanford

- With Demetress Bell out of Buffalo, the Bills will need to replace him.

11. Kansas City Chiefs - Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis

- Chiefs will need a nose tackle with Kelly Gregg a free agent. Poe is a freakish athlete who is either a boom or bust pick.

12. Seattle Seahawks - Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

- Ex. Seahawks linebacker David Hawthorne recently signed with the Saints for a five year deal. The Seahawks can easily replace him with the best linebacker in the draft. Kuechly is one of the safest picks in the draft.

13. Arizona Cardinals - David DeCastro, OG, Stanford

- The offensive line needs to improve if the Cardinals want to perform on offense. DeCastro is the best offensive guard in the draft and will perform like a pro bowler

14. Dallas Cowboys - Mark Barron, SS, Alabama

- Reports say the Cowboys really like Dontari Poe, but since he is drafted already by the Chiefs they will look to position of need and that is strong safety.

15. Philadelphia Eagles - Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

- Brockers is a raw talent but with high potential and thats what the Eagles might be looking at if they want to improve there defensive line.

16. New York Jets - Melvin Ingram, OLB, South Carolina

- Rex Ryans wants to add another pass rusher to his 3-4 defense. Coples is available but Ingram fits the 3-4 defense better.

17. Cincinnati Bengals (From Raiders) - Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina

- This is a fantastic pick for the Bengals. They need a defensive end with Rucker and Fanane gone. Coples projected as a top 10 pick has major talent but with character issues. I am sure the Bengals coaching staff can fix that.

18. San Deigo Chargers - Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama

- Chargers need another pass rusher even with the addition of Jarrett Johnson. They need all the defensive playmakers they can get.

19. Chicago Bears - Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

- Bears dont need a wide receiver early in the draft with the addition of Brandon Marshall. There biggest need is offensive tackle with Webb doing a terrible job for them.

20. Tennessee Titans - Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

- Cortland Finnegan is out the door so cornerback is a need.

21. Cincinnati Bengals - Devon Still, DT, Penn. State

- Bengals draft another playmaker on the defensive line.

22. Cleveland Browns (From Falcons) - Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

- Browns get there big play receiver. McCoy will have some weapons with Floyd and Richardson to help there offense.

23. Detroit Lions - Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

- Lions get a great cornerback in Janoris Jenkins. If he stays out of trouble, the Lions will have a dominant cornerback on there defense.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers - Cordy Glenn, OG/OT, Georgia

- Steelers can have him play right tackle to replace Flozell Adams.

25. Denver Broncos - Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

- The offense is all set for the Broncos, now they need a defense if they want to win a superbowl.

26. Houston Texans - Dont'a Hightower, LB, Alabama

- DeMeco Ryans is gone so the Texans get a talented linebacker to replace him.

27. New England Patriots - Peter Konz, OC, Wisconsin

- Dan Koppen is a free agent and Peter Konz would be a instant upgrade if he returns.

28. Green Bay Packers - Shea McClellin, OLB, Boise State

- Packers defense was the reason why they lost to the Giants last season. They couldn't rush the quarterback. Matthews and McClellin is a scary duo to play with.

29. Baltimore Ravens - Nick Perry, OLB, USC

- To replace Jarrett Johnson, the Ravens draft a steal in the draft with Perry who can play 3-4 linebacker.

30. San Francisco 49ers - Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford

- Harbaugh is familiar with Fleener and 49ers will have a two tight end set with Davis and Fleener.

31. New England Patriots - Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illionois

- Mercilus can play both linebacker and defensive end and can help rush the quarterback with 13 sacks last season.

32. New York Giants - Doug Martin, RB, Boise State

- Giants usually take the best player available and Doug Martin is the best available. He reminds me of Matt Forte and can be a real playmaker for the Giants.

    • And I’m sure frank, trying to be the good little solider in the new job, said “sure, I can work with Young, but I’d rather have Stroud. We all would, in fact”. It would have been a bad look for frank to go in there after just 2 months on the job and say “I can’t make that work” to anything, especially concerning the choice of QB when one of his calling cards was being a QB guru of sorts. He wasn’t going to delegitimize himself to his new boss by vehemently opposing Young. The best he could do was go with the flow and hope for the best because tepper in all his inexperience had already made his mind up based on what the talking heads had filled his ears with for months on end. Frank could have said he wanted to draft Jim Plunkett and tepper would have just nodded, pretending to listen as daydreams of Young danced in his head.    Frank Reich with free will would have taken Stroud over Young every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
    • Yep, definitely not Werner, Turay or Paye. Ian Cummings - Pro Football Network - : "Latu is an impact pass rusher on Day 1, with one of the deepest pass-rushing arsenals in recent memory. And at 6’5?, 265 pounds, he compounds his elite hand usage with similarly exhilarating bend capacity past the arc."
    • If the Colts are thinking of trading up, I think the 2nd is the time to do it. I fully expect the Bills to take Mitchell, but there is still 1st round talent available. The two players I would trade up for are Iowa CB Cooper DeJean and Texas A&M LB Edgerrin Cooper, both players are first round talent. I think DeJean is falling because of his injury and some teams see him as a safety not a CB and Cooper is a LB where it's very rare for teams to take LBs in the first round yet he is one of the best overall players in draft in my opinion. If we can somehow trade up for one of these two players, it would instantly improve our defense and our coverage ability.
    • McConkey is versatile... he can lineup everywhere. I don't think the fit with downs is that big of a problem.
