Moala and Mathews

Many times on third down and long (obvious passing situations) the Colts use Moala and Matthews to rush.

So apparently those two are being put on the field as "pass rushers"

Not really. What I've been noticing lately is that we're subbing out the entire defensive line together, and playing a first unit / second unit rotation. Until RJF got hurt, it was him, Franklin and Redding, and then Moala, Chapman and Mathews would come in. Sometimes we'd sub situationally, and sometimes that rotation would change and Hughes would get a rep here and there, but for the most part, it's been a fixed rotation.

The situational subs for passing downs are the linebackers, most often.

Anyways, the point is they're not putting Moala and Mathews on the field specifically in passing situations.

if memory serves correctly, and it usually does, moala and mathews are used in more 4 dlineman situations

Depends how you classify linemen. Mathis and Werner are linebackers, but they sometimes take a down stance. That's not always a function of the line configuration, sometimes it's a preference. In run situations, regardless of how Mathis or Werner lines up, the three linemen are usually 2 gapping.

Outside of goal line situations, I don't think we use more than three "linemen" at a time.
