  1. I am not a big fan of this scheme but he needs a DE. To be honest, every defensive scheme needs to be able to pressure the qb in order for it to be effective. This team lacks a true franchise DE and until we get one, it wont matter what scheme we run, as they will all fail. Also, every defense needs players to make it work. Even the great defensive coordinators had the guy and/or guys. We lack a RDE, FS and a corner. I don't care who you bring in to Indy to be the defensive coach. I bet they would all fail to give results based on the talent they currently have on the roster.
  2. The more and more I think about it, I tend to agree with you. I think this is the year he moves up to get a guy. This team has been without a franchise DE for 7 years. U saw what Houston did last year to get their franchise qb and DE all in one year. They traded up to get Anderson at 3. Ballard talks about Richardson and how he expects him to elevate the offense and allow for more explosive plays. You have Richardson, an elite running back, a number 2 wr (Pittman), Downs is emerging and Pierce is the unknown but i expect that he may have a coming out party this year with Richardson's ability to throw. Ballard has draft a lot of athletic TE's who have not been able to reach their upside because of injury, personal issues and/or overall qb play. I truly believe we have to give the skill players on offense one more year under Richardson to see what we have. Now to the defense. We have no franchise DE. We have Paye who's 5th option should not be picked up. He has been underwhelming and he is a LDE at best. Buckner is Buckner but has maybe 2 more years of elite play in him. They dont have that guy on the end to put constant pressure on the qb and make this defense work. The saftey play is average at best. Cross has not shown the coaching staff anything over the last 2 years. Blackmon is average and that was clear in the Colts offering him a one year deal. He was basically signed because they lack depth at safety. Brents came with a lot of fan fare but cannot stay healthy and the other corners are late round picks who i have little faith in over a 17 game schedule even though Ballard appears to love them. I would actually draft defense with my 1st 2 picks. I was shocked that they kept Bradley as I fully expected them to move on in another direction. My keeping Bradley it showed me two things. They are committed to this scheme and acknowledge to Gus that they did not support him by providing him with enough play makers. I expect the Colts to address the D early and often in this draft. I just don't see them pulling the trigger on a TE and/or WR at 15. I really hope this is the year where they finally move up to get one of the DE's and lay the foundation for this D much like they did last year in drafting Richardson. Drafting a wr is the sexy choice, and I get it that we should surround the qb with weapons. The thing is that we may actually have some weapons on the roster and all it needs is for Richardson to play and we will see guys like Pierce and the TE's flourish. We don't address the DE, corner and/or safety position early and expect us to really struggle on defense this year. This draft reminds me of the Nelson pick. We struggle for years to protect Luck and they drafted a generational guard to put up a wall. A guard at #6 was a lot for a guard, but their was pressure to protect the franchise qb and the organization had seen enough. I sense the same urgency with the DE position. It is time to go big game hunting!!
  3. Agreed to some extent, but Gus does not have the D line to press the qbs to make wild throws which in turn could be picked off by our corners playing zone. That is the whole of idea of playing Gus' defense. The front 4 puts pressure on the qb and hopefully put them in 3rd and long situations going down the field
  4. Did you look at the defensive stats from last year? They ranked near the bottom in most categories that are important in rating a defense. What is more concerning is that these stats were accumulated while playing bottom of the barrel qbs. I would argue that Richardson has talent around him and if he is as good as they say, he should elevate that talent to another level. We have a franchise qb on the offense and now we need a franchise DE and a couple more defensive playmakers such as a corner and safety.
  5. I think everyone is in awe over the wrs and qbs, but I think you are going to see the LT's DE's and corners picked earlier than most people think. Maybe there is a chance that a guy like Bowers will fall to 15 and everyone here will be happy. Sure, we will score 30 points a point but end up giving up 31 as we have no playmakers at the positions that are necessary to make a defense good.
  6. If you are really interested in making this team more complete and willing to trade up, I would do it to get a DE that can rush the qb. Ballard has been unable to get " the guy" and I am not opposed to moving up to get a guy like Turner. I would never use draft capital to move up to say #5 and get Harrison and/or Nabers. Honestly, if i were to move up to get a receiver, it would be Nabers who is explosive and has that dog in him.
  7. Nabers got an attitude and I like it. Got a lot of dog in him.
  8. Everyone says that and every year guys fall. I actually don't think this is a particularly good year.
  9. Everything is a crap shoot lol. I say they get a corner if thry can get a good one at 15. If they have to move up a bit to take one then do it. I would like them to get Turner but u probably have to go to at least 7 to get him I think. Verse maybe an option for trade up
  10. U got me on Hill, and they traded him and won how many more have they won without it? Kupp is not elite. It's a system they run in LA. My issue is this. I bet if u look at the teams with the greatest play off success. It's starts at the premium positions.
  11. Name the last team to win the Superbowl with what u would call an elite receiver.
  12. I don't understand why people are so preoccupied with a wr over a corner? When looking at the offense vs. the defense, there appears to be more talent on the offensive side of the ball. Is smart football to build up thr side of the ball that is lacking talent? I really don't get it.
  13. U will have to go probably in the top 6. U would have to give a ton to move up for wr. No way, U give up that much draft capital for a wr. To man holes in this team.
  14. If they want to two top pass rushers, they will have to move up. Turner will bw gone in the top 10. Verse will go soon after him.
  15. Said it for weeks. Don't be surprised if he goes before Harrison and I had him rated higher.
  16. Every year we hear that and every year a couple of them drop out of the top 10. I actually think this is kind of an average qb draft.
  17. I think you missed what i was saying. Those other guys were not graded that high and if they slipped in the draft it was because of character (Kelce). What i meant was when was the last time that the number 1 tight end coming out of college slipped to the 15 position and not just the number one tight end but one as highly graded as Bowers.
  18. To me if the Colts are thinking defense, they probably have 3 players on their mind at 15. I would say Turner, Verse and Mitchell . I think Terrion's 4.5 would remove him from their board at 15, so you have the 2 pass rushers and Mitchell. I think in order to get one of those 3 guys, you have to get into the top 10. Mitchell ran a 4.3 and killed it at senior bowl, which the Colts love. Turner I think maybe a top 8 pick as he is the elite pass rusher. If Verse and Mitchell make it out of the top 10, I don't think they will last long. I believe the Colts are going to have to trade up this year if they want a chance at a true playmaker on defense. I think after these 4 defensive players, there is quite a drop off. Just wondering what other people think on where they see these guys getting drafted? I don't see any of these 3 getting to 15.
  19. Watch Parson play in play off games when teams run at him. He is very ineffective and I think over rated. As a pass rusher running free, he is elite. As an all around player, I find me wanting more
  20. Thats a good point. He may have kept Bradley because maybe he didnt see any other options out there. However, maybe this draft on defense will tell us that they maybe moving in different direction in terms of scheme and Gus will have to adjust or be gone at the end of the year. That is why I am really opposed to drafting zone corners in this draft. If Gus is not here after this year, you dont want this draft dedicated to his scheme and then new coach comes in and you are starting all over again. Draft the players this year that allow you to be flexible in case of coaching change. That is why I am hoping they go for a man corner with their 1st pick.
  21. No trade backs allowed this year for the love of God lol!! If anything, Ballard needs to go for that guy who can be a playmaker. Go for Mitchell if he is available
  22. At the end of the day, the qbs success in this draft will be dependant on what team they go to. Does that team have great coaching and will they the fit the offence around that qb. Sean Payton as does Minneaota want a specific qb based on the head coaches and where they learned their scheme. I believe Minny coach and Payton prefer the west coach approach. They want accuracy and anticipation. So a guy like Maye is someone who they would never even consider. It's all about the fit. McCarthy could intrigue teams as I belwive he played under center and if u can be coached by Harbaugh, the would be a plus. I would gather that Harbaugh is very demanding snd would run pro concepts
  23. What sunk Jones is his intangibles rather than the physical ability to play the position. McCarthy has off the charts intangibles but limited film on playing the qb because they were such a dominant run and defensive team.
  24. You want the Colts to use their 1st pick on a CB who is going to play zone in the NFL and maybe moved to safety? Why would you draft that type of player with the 15th pick when you can get that type of player in the 3rd round? You use the 15th pick to draft a corner is more diverse and can also play man. With the 15th pick you are hoping to draft a possible blue chip player and immediate starter if you are lucky. Nothing about Cooper suggests he is able to play anything other than zone. His ceiling is a zone corner and would never be able to play man based on his skill set. You draft a guy like Mitchell who if he turns out could be an elite man corner.
