  1. Easy. Look at their wins and loss record over the last 8 yeas. Look at how many of their original picks have been signed to 2nd contracts. How many have become legit play maker ? Of course you can consider other factors, but based just on that factors, you are looking at an average scouting department. Take the drafting/scouting on the offensive side of the ball out of the equation because many people on this board attribute a offenses success on the qb. Now if you look just at the defense and how it has improved over 8 years. I am confident in saying that the scouting and/or drafting on that side of the ball is below average.
  2. If Richardson would have improved on his play, he would have been the number 1 pick. I think Williams has been hyped a lot before the beginning of the college season. I think the generational label has worn off as there are a lof of questions about him going forward.
  3. It is funny, but I was listening to Lombari's podcast which draws a lot of negative reviews on this board lol. He actually talked about how most of these top qbs were transfers. They transferred and then went on to have great years with their new teams. He said that he would dive into their careers before they transferred as all of these guys were very average when they played with their previous teams. It could be that they had horrible coaching but it is interesting to note. I am really not high on this group at all. I would go with Maye if I really had a high pick. I
  4. Ramsey played under Gus when he coached the defense in Jacksonville. From what I remember, that D was pretty impressive and then it all fell apart at Ramsey wanted out. It would be interesting to go back and see how Gus used Ramsey in that zone defense. I believe one of his reasons for wanting out was his differences with the coaching staff. I could be wrong but if i remember correctly, I thought he was somewhat perturbed by the fact that they had him playing more zone than man. Ramsey is an elite man corner, and if Gus was not using him in a manner that used his skill set then more reason to be concerned about Gus. If Gus is not going to change his defense scheme at all to allow and allow for more blitzing and man coverages. Then a corner is a waste at #15 as you would be getting a corner who is primarily a man corner.. Zone corners are found usually late in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I was not in favour of retaining Gus. I don't believe in the style of defense he coaches and /or the personnel that is currently on the roster, which is a Ballard issue. I saw nothing last year that told me to expect anything different from this defense heading int the 2024 season. Now maybe Steichen has talked to Gus about the need to tweak his system and I think the draft is going to tell us how Gus is going to coach this year. They grab a corner at 15 , then I would hopefully expect they use him based on his skill set. Past history tells us alot about the future and I think we are going to get more of the same out of Gus, but maybe I am wrong.
  5. I would like to have a corner at 15 who has the potential to play some man and allow Bradley to be more flexible moving forward.. Based on the youth, play and injuries in the secondary last year, I don't have a lot of faith moving forward with this group. Now if all the elite corners are off the board when it comes to 15, then you go for best player available. There is no way that Ballard should be trading down. This team lacks elite play makers and the further he moves down the board, it reduces the chance of getting a possible day one starter. He needs to stay at 15 and if anything move up and get a player that they covet. I think Steichen may have his finger on the trigger and I suspect he will have a lot to say who they are picking. Retaining Bradley tells me that Steichen feels it is talent and not coaching why this defense is horrible. He comes from Philly and they are not shy about making moves. This could be the year where we actually move up to get that guy.
  6. If Brock as sliding down, I would have all the faith in another team that they would trade up to 14 and make the pick in front of the Colts lol. Ballard loves his picks and he would just sit there watching Bowers drop and refuse to make a move.
  7. The thing that impressed me about Richardson is that he wants to be a qb fist and not the second coming of Cam Newton. You could see it when he stood in the pocket. He didn't look fidgety, but it appeared like he was going through his reads. Lots to like, but injuries are the only concern I have about him moving forward.
  8. This team needs a corner. I predict a corner with the 1st pick. The Colts believe that if Richardson is who they think he can become, it will bring out the talent in the wrs and tes. There is such a need in the secondary it is glaring. This has to be a draft dedicated to the defense. I would probably go defense with the first three picks. Corner, safety and DE.
  9. This qb group was hyped before the college season as one of the best. However, the dust has settled and I think there isnt a qb that grades out over 75. Williams was suppose to be generational and he doesn't come close to meeting that label. If I was a GM and had the coaching staff that could support a raw talent, I am taking Maye all the way. He kind of reminds me of Josh Allen and Richardson. He has the highest ceiling but will need some coaching. I am not a fan of Williams what so ever and he screams bust to me. The other qbs, I wouldn't ever grade as a 70. Iam sure that some of them will succeed with coaching. Could see Minnesota and Denver grabbing some of these guys and making them legit because of the coaching staff. I think if they go to Washington, Bears and Patriots, they will crap out.
  10. It really depends on what he did this year if he would have stayed in college. If he would have improved on his stats, his teams record and showed more promise, I am sure he would have been drafted 1st overall and would have been seen as Cam Newton #2. Now if he regressed from last year, he could have dropped all the way to the 3rd round.
  11. Not disagreeing just making the point that the higher u r picked, the better the chance or u producing
  12. And I would argue that staying the same course is not always better!!
  13. Gardener was 4th overall and I believe Wotherspoon was 5th overall last year. They had immediate impact, and I think that can be attributed to how highly rated they were coming out. Not saying a corner picked at 15 can't have the same impact but probably less likely
  14. Hmmmm. Didn't Ballard always say it wasn't about one player, the qb????
  15. Totally agree and that is why Ballard's philosophy of building in the trenches is not wrong. He was unable to find a LT, but Rainmann looks legit and the Oline seems to be coming together . He still has not been able to find a pass rushing DE after 7 years and that is his greatest blemish. Besides Buckner, there is not a lot of pass rushing talent on the D line and please ignore the sack totals from last year. The qb position seems to be solved short of a career ending injury, as Richardson did look the part while he played. He still needs time before we can finally put that one to bed. For all the love of the great wr's in the league. If you look at the top teams that made it to the final four, it was because they have a franchise qb and good line play at both ends. It is really pretty simple on how to build a great team. Franchise qb and good O and D lines. This has been the formula since football was created as a sport. The rest are pieces you can add once you get those areas solved. I have been critical of Ballard not on his philosophy in building a team. I have been critical of him not being able to draft the talent that allows his philosophy to become a legit playoff team year after year. He needs to draft and/or add a DE, corner and safety to allow the D take a huge step forward. I think the pieces on the O are there if we left them develop. I would not be opposed to a wr but I believe this draft has to be heavy defensively.
  16. I am not sure the capital will be that high. Sneed is wanting a new contract, so KC has to decide to trade him now or most likely get nothing for him next year. KC is smart that way, as they are ahead of the curb kind of like Bill was when he had no intention of signing a player. Get rid of him when the value is high. It really depends on his medical. If he was in great shape, I may go as high as a 2nd, but no higher. You might even get him for a 3rd but yes the knee would be a concern unless he checks out. You could also build that into the contract with more guarntee money upfront.
  17. I am not sure if Ballard will ever depart from viewing wr as an add on position. That is inline with Bill Walsh and look what Reid has done in KC by trading Hill. Yes, he has an elite qb, but I think the Colts view Richardson's skill set in the same mold as Mahommes. If Richardson can become what they hope he can be, I think they will continue to add wr's in the later rounds. The qb makes the wrs and not vice a versa. I am willing to roll with the current group at TE and WR. I really think this team needs a legit DE and corner. This defense is not good and I think it is a talent issue. They need a legit pass rusher besides Buckner and they are hard to come by. I would be all in on Sneed if he checks out medically and then go best player available at 15 no matter who that is. I also believe we need a true safety to patrol the back end as he is not on this team. I wouldn't even be surprised if they went safety at 15
  18. To me the Hall of Fame is of the elite players and not the very good. I look at it this way. To get in the hall of fame, you should be comparable to your fellow entries. For example, if you gave me Marion, Elway, Montana, Brady, and so on to start a franchise, I would be good with that and I think they are all in the elite stratosphere level. I am not into the whole GOAT thing as I think it is ridiculous. Now if you said to me your 1st receiver you have to take is Wayne to start a franchise, I am like no way. That's how I look at it. There are numerous Wr's I would take before Wayne to start a franchise. It is not I am against Wayne, as there are other players who probably dont belong in the hall. I value Moss, Rice, Johnson, Harrison as the elite of the elite. Even though Wayne was very good, I really never looked at him as being in the elite while he played.
  19. I would easily tag him over signing him to a big contract. If they tag him, it is because they want AR to have some veteran targets next year coming back from injury and not because of his talent level. If the Colts do tag him, that should tell you all you need to know how much they value him. You pay elite players elite money and you run into big trouble when you pay good players elite money. I have no idea what he wants but I would never get into what people are saying he is worth like 23 million. I just think tagging him is the way smarter choice. You have him for one year and should take some pressure off of AR coming back. Downs should improve and I still have hope for Pierce in this offence with AR coming back. I am kind of high on Granson, Woods and I really like Mallory. I loved Mallory's tape and I really dont see much difference in skill set when comparing the TE's to Pittman. Plus, I think some of the TE's can start to develop and play the role that he plays in this offence. To me, Pittman is actually more of smaller tight end and/or possession receiver.
  20. one more thing. KC's secondary looks lights out but if they lose Jones, I expect that to have an effect on their coverage. He is a monster out there and he can change a game much like Mahonnes can change a game on offence.
  21. Actually the Legion of Boom would still be okay in todays game as they mostly played zone and as a result they played little man so there would not be a lot of clutching and grabbing. The reason why the Legion of Boom would be less effective today is become the game is so complex and you cannot run one type of defense all game and expect the qb and coordinator to catch on to it
  22. I would be shocked if Bowers is sitting there at 15. If he is out of the top 10, you can bet someone would move up and draft him before the Colts because Ballard likes to accumulate picks
  23. KC's defense is good because it doesn't stick to one scheme. He mixes it up and his players are adept at playing man and zone. The corners that Ballard continually drafts are more zone corners which in turn limits what plays they can call on defense. Its rather simple actually. KC's corners are very good to being elite
