Lamar Jackson vs Andrew Luck

Luck never truly lived up to his potential the way Lamar has.  That’s the Colts organization’s fault and that hurts.  Had he been given the proper support I think this wouldn’t have even been a question.  But obviously time will remember Lamar as the better player.

I’ll never forget when Bruce Arians was asked this question comparing Peyton and Brady and Big Ben and Luck.  He said without question Luck was the best quarterback he was ever around.  I think that’s saying something.

At their peaks, can't go wrong with either. Luck made a Championship game as well.

I'll point something out here also, Jackson plays on a team that ALWAYS plays defense, regardless of who the players and coaches are(the ravens have had a revolving door of defensive coordinators for the past 20 years and it has seemingly never mattered) while Luck played on a team that NEVER played defense. It is much easier to play offense when you don't have to put up 30+ points a game to give your team a chance to win. I wonder what Lamar would look like if he had to put up 30 a game to win? And even with that great defense he's always had I believe Luck still has a better post season record.(though that could change this year).

Luck is 4-4 in the Post Season, Lamar is 2-3 currently. Lamar will go down as the better QB all-time because he will play 10+ years and has 2 MVP's assuming he wins it this year. Having said that, Luck from 2012-2014 was great, his 2018 season puts him in the top 50 of all-time of QBs ever to play. After around 40 QBs all-time it dwindles down to the guys that were great in short spurts or what may have been. Luck is top 50, Lamar could end up top 20 if he wins a SB and plays great for 3 or 4 more years.

Luck is not top 50. I’ve not found a single top 50 list with Luck on it. He’s only found on one top 100 list and that article was dated 2014.

I will gather a list one day; I have one but it's not complete of a top 50. I have gone over every QB that has played in the NFL since the 20's, after you get through 40 it really is a crapshoot regarding accomplishments, stats, talent, etc..

I think Lamar will top Luck not only due to longevity but he basically is a much better version of Michael Vick, who’s ranked an average of 27th  in the top 50 rankings across over a dozen top 50 articles. Curiously, the most current article from august 2023, has Mahomes at 20th and Vick at 23rd. I’m not sure I agree with that

Yeah I stated above, Lamar's longevity will give him the edge over Luck in the end. He also is about to win his 2nd MVP and he finally made a Final 4. Mahomes is Top 5, I will debate that all day - he has won 2 League MVP's, 2 SB MVP's, been to 5 Championship Games, has thrown for 5000 yards in a season and by the eye test, he reminds me of Brady and Peyton as in, if he is down by 14 points, he can come back and win more times than not. He is that dangerous.

My top 10 list is this as of now (all-time)

1. Tom Brady, I could put a * by it because some feel he cheated.

2. Joe Montana

3. Peyton Manning

4. Pat Mahomes

5. Johnny Unitas

6. John Elway

7. Otto Graham

8. Aaron Rodgers

9. Drew Brees

10. Brett Favre

Based on accomplishments = MVP's, Stats, Talent, Leadership that QB had, Clutch factor, ERA that QB played in. I do look at SB wins/Championships won = Otto/Unitas but winning the SB is a team accomplishment in reality. I have Rodgers over Brees because he has won 4 League MVP's, Brees never won 1. I have Brees over Favre because, Brees did win a SB MVP, Favre did not + Brees was less reckless with the ball. Favre cost his team in a few playoff games with his INT's.

    • To me, it’s also a non- story, but for a different reason.     Because Ryan Kelly, classy guy that he is, has chosen to make it a non-story.  No complaining.  No running to the media to try to generate sympathy.   No hold out OR hold in where you show up but tell the team you won’t practice without a new contract.   He could’ve done any of them.  He chose to do none of them.     I think Kelly is a classy guy.  easy to see why he’s voted a team captain, and I think the union rep.  I also think the Colts under Ballard are filled with classy guys who are easy to root for.  Honestly, it one of the biggest reasons I’ve stuck around since Luck retired.  It’s a fun team to cheer for.    So I like the team, the coaches,  the front office, the owner and the city.   Hope to make it to Indy one day to meet as many of you as I can.
    • No worries.   Wasn’t making fun of you.  If I had one dollar for every brain cramp moment I’ve posted here, I’d be rich!      It’s all good.
    • I'm very interested in Carlie's as well.  I'm just not sold on our starting LB core.
    • I also forgot to say I think Buffalo will also have a down year.
    • Yeah North.....maybe I got confused about the Pittsburgh Pirates playing in the central.  But I think before realignment there were only 3 divisions, I think.. Like the Colts and Dolphins played in the East, the Raiders and Broncos played in the West and the Steelers and Brownies played in the Central.  But yeah my mistake the Steelers currently in the North division.
