PFF releases 2023 College Football Midseason All-America Team

2023 College Football Midseason All-America Team: Michael Penix Jr., Dallas Turner and more | College Football | PFF

 

Apparently can't just copy/paste link directly but have gone through and broke down upcoming junior/seniors hopefully entering this year's NFL draft and approximately which round they might end up in.  Definitely added a few newer names to my draft board for this year and future draft board watch list as well.

 

Round 1

 

·         TE Brock Bowers (Georgia) – reigning John Mackey Award Winner – on pace to be the best TE in PFF college era – truly generational talent.  2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team.

·         RG Christian Haynes (UConn) - After 5 weeks he is the only guard in the country with an 85+ PB and RB grades - 85.8 overall PFF grade.  2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team.

·         LCB Cooper DeJean (Iowa) – All around complete DB in coverage and can stop the run.  Bonus PR currently ranked 11th.  2023 college football midseason all-America Third Team

·         WR-X Rome Odunze (Washington) - 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team

·         CB Kool-Aid McKinstry (Alabama) tied for 2nd among all FBS in forced incompletions (18).  McKinstry is also the best PR leading all Power 5 players in 2022 with 332 punt return yards. Kalen King (PSU) in single coverage led all corners in the country with a 93.3 grade and 18.3 passer rating allowed.  King forced 15 incompletions in single coverage tied for 3rd among FBS corners in 2022.  Excels in man coverage.  2023 college football midseason all-America Second Team

·         WR-X Brian Thomas (LSU) junior if he declares- Thomas’ 9 receiving TDs are tied for the most in the nation and he ranks 7th with 603 receiving yards while possessing a perfect 158.3 passer rating when targeted.  2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team. 

·         SS Tyler Nubin (Minnesota) - two top traits football IQ and impressive ball production.  Versus Nebraska had 2 picks.  2023 college football midseason all-America Second Team.

 

Round 2

 

·         WR-X Tory Horton (Colorado St) – Combined 20 first downs and touchdowns ranks 6th among FBS receivers with a 85.6 PFF grade.  Bonus PR currently ranked 6th.  2023 earned college football midseason all-America Third Team.

·         FS Calen Bullock (USC) - 2023 college football midseason all-America Second Team.

·         WLB Danny Stutsman (Oklahoma) - 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team

·         OL Cooper Beebe (Kansas State) – Jack of all trades OL No matter where Cooper Beebe lines up, he produces elite play. At right tackle in 2020, he was a PFF honorable mention All-Big 12 honoree. As a left tackle in 2021, he was named first-team All-Big 12. In 2022 at left guard, Beebe was a second-team All-American.  Beebe's 94.0 pass-blocking grade over the past two seasons led all offensive linemen in college football. During that span, he didn’t allow a sack on 770 pass-blocking snaps.  Beebe is the only FBS guard who ranks in the top five in both PB (4th) and RB (2nd).  He still hasn’t allowed a sack since the 2020 season. 2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team.

·         OC Jackson Powers-Johnson (Oregon) junior if he declares – Career year as he is the only FBS center who has earned 80+ grades in both PB/RB this season.  His 88.4 PB grade leads all Power Five centers and has only surrendered just one pressure, no sacks, on 183 PB snaps.  2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team. – new addition and top center in the class so far is Sedrick Van Pran (Georgia) only has an overall PFF grade of 81.1.

·         LCB Kris Abrams-Draine (Missouri) junior if he declares. 2023 PFF TOW 4 honors.  After 6 games leads all FBS players with 8 PBUs (1.8 PDPG) while adding 3 INTs.   10 combined interceptions and forced incompletions are the most among Power Five CBs while only allowing 11 catches all season. 2023 college football midseason all-America First Team.

 

Round 3

 

·         FS Jaylin Simpson (Auburn) – 2023 PFF TOW 5 honors. Simpson’s 91.3 coverage grade leads all safeties in college football.  His 4 INTs is tied for the most among FBS safeties.  Simpson has only surrendered just six catches for 32 yards. From a rotational CB the past couple of seasons to one of the top playmaking FS this season.  2023 college football midseason all-America First Team

·         DT T’Vondre Sweat (Texas) - 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team.

·         LCB Denzel Burke (OSU) junior – Burke’s 8 forced incompletions this season are tied for the most among Power Five CBs.  He has surrendered only 11 catches on 26 targets into his primary coverage this season, good for a 40.4 passer rating when targeted.   2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team

·         WR-Z Roman Wilson (Michigan) - 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Third Team.  

 

Round 4

 

·         NT Howard Cross III (ND) - 90.7 overall grade with an 86.5 run-defense grade and a 90.3 pass-rush grade.  His 20 pressures are tied for second while his 16 run-defense stops are tied for third.  2023 midseason all-America First Team.

·         WLB Payton Wilson (NC) – Wilson at midseason is the only Power Five LB who has earned 75.0+ grades as a run defender, pass-rusher, and in coverage.  He ranks 2nd among same group with 46 plays of making first contact with the ball carrier and 9 tackles for loss or no gain.  2023 college football midseason all-America First Team – new addition – Leonard’s role

·         LT Javon Foster (Missouri) – 2023 PFF TOW 1 honors. 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team – new addition with an 84.8 PFF grade

 

Round 5

 

·         SLB Dallas Turner (Alabama) - 2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team.

·         LG/C Michael Jurgens (Wake Forest) – Tied with OL Bradley Ashmore with an 84.4 PFF grade after 4-5 weeks in 2023.  Jurgens probably the more well-rounded of the two (Ashmore) only one of two guards in the Power Five with an 80.0 PB and RB grades.   2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team.

·         RT Taliese Fuaga (Oregon St) junior if he declares 2024 – PFF has him listed as a top-10 OT entering 2023 season.  After 4 weeks Fuaga is the Power 5’s highest-graded OL with an 87.5 PFF grade.  2023 after 4-5 weeks his 90.9 run-blocking grade is nearly 3 points higher than next closest FBS OT.  His 6 pancake blocks (PFF highest graded blocks) are also tied for the most in the country.  Besides Freeland and Witt as Smith’s backups Fuaga offers upside adding another player who excels in run-blocking.  Fuaga is right behind Alt with an 86.4 grade this season.  His 90.1 RB grade is nearly 4 points higher than the next closest FBS tackle and his leads with 9 big-time blocks.  2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team.

 

Round 6

 

·         DI Rylie Mills (ND) – ND reunion pairing Mills with Howard Cross two of the best IDL this season – 2023 PFF TOW 4 honors – earned college football midseason all-America Second Team

·         CB Alex Johnson (UCLA) – 2023 PFF TOW 2 honors currently 30th after 5 games with 3 PBU average 1.2 PBPG while adding 3 INTs.  Johnson has allowed just a 0.6 passer rating when targeted this season which leads all Power Five CBs.  On 13 targets into his coverage, he has only surrendered four catches while coming down with 3 INTs and forcing an incompletion. 2023 college football midseason all-America First Team–FLEX D

 

Round 7

·         WR-SL Malik Washington (Virginia) - 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team.  

·         TE Cade Stover (OSU) - 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Third Team

 

Draftable/UDFA List

·         RB Kimani Vidal (Troy) – 2022 PFF TOW 12, 2023 PFF TOW 1 (89.2 PFF grade).  As a true freshman Vidal ranked 21st overall averaging 3.83 yards after contact.  After 6 weeks Vidal currently leads the FBS in rushing yards by a large margin with 835 yards more than 100 over next closest back.  Vidal was an early watch list will be interesting to see what he does against better competition.  Earned college football midseason all-America Third Team.

·         RB Ray Davis (Kentucky) – 2023 PFF TOW 5 honors – 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Third Team

·         RB Jo’Quavious Marks (Miss. St) – 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention – new addition proven to average 4-5+ YPC but 50-83 RECs/year impressive

·         RT Josh Fryar (OSU) - 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention

·         RG Matthew Jones (OSU) – 2023 PFF TOW 2 honors. 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Third Team.

·         RG Elijah Klein (UTEP) – 2022 PFF TOW 0 honors.  2023 college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention

·         OC Duke Clemens (UCLA) – 2023 PFF TOW 6 honors.  2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team

·         OC Matt Lee Miami (FL) 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention

·         Edge Chris Braswell (Alabama) - - 2023 college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention

·         Edge Mohamed Kamara (Colorado St) - 2023 college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention – new addition with a very impressive stat line 7.5-9.5 sacks/yr, 1-2 *, and avg 1 FR/yr

·         MLB Jay Higgins (Iowa) - 2023 college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention

·         MLB Dallas Gant (Toledo) - 2023 college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention

·         CB Willie Roberts (Louisiana Tech) 2023 college football midseason all-America Second Team

·         CB Kamal Hadden (Tennessee) 2023 college football midseason all-America Third Team

·         CB Beanie Bishop Jr. (WV) 2023 college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention

·         FS Josh Proctor (OSU) - 2023 college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention

·         SCB Mike Sainristil (Michigan) – 2023 PFF TOW 4 honors.  2023 college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention-Flex D

·         SCB Sebastian Castro (Iowa) -new addition after 5 weeks has allowed no TDs, PFF grade of 87.9 only allowing a 44.2 passer rating with 2 INTs and 2 PBUs.  2023 college football midseason all-America Second Team-Flex D – remind me Kenny Moore as an UDFA who could end up with a decent NFL career.

·         LS Nick Barcelos (Nevada) - 2023 college football midseason all-America Second Team as a long snapper – Luke Rhodes signed a 4 year extension with the Colts September 8th, 2023.
