This is the root cause of Pagano's diminishing defense.  Unfortunately it affects all facets of the game plan, both offensively and defensively.

 

Pagano's flawed game plan needs to incorporate Chud's 4th quarter offensive philosophy into quarters 1,2 & 3.  Since Pagano employs the same stagnant defense throughout the game, it is the only strategy that offers a sliver of hope to offset his less than spectacular defensive strategy.  

Pagano has been given a crap defense by Griggson. There is so only much defensive strategizing one can do when you are only able to use pawns to fight off rooks, bishops and knights.

We've had a bottom 15 defense many times over the years, but a bottom 5? 

 

The only solace at least, is that as the season progresses our younger pups get more reps and therefore more experience. Perhaps the entire unit will start to gel more effectively... 

Yeah, you're right, but that's sort of a Colt's trademark to some extent.  It usually isn't THIS horrible, but we're usually forced to outscore folks outside of Bob Sander's healthy games.  I am really worried about Houston's dual threat receivers and us with only 1 real corner and no pass rush. It is going to get ugly fast.  And Lamar Miller is no hack at RB... this could be a 45-44 type game, and we'll likely have to score over 40 to even be in the game.  (And I can't even imagine how bad Pittsburgh is going to toast us... it's almost hopeless to even play that game).
